I recently got a sony vaio CW at bestbuy yesterday. The link for it is below. Brought it home and started using it. Everything worked perfectly for the first hour, and then the wireless just went out. It will no longer allow me to search for wireless networks. Two other laptops in my house are working fine so its not the router.

The wireless switch on the front is ON, however the little light is not lit. When I go to the SmartWi Connection Utility in the taskbar, it only lists an on/off option for Bluetooth, no Wifi option.

It appears to me that even though the wireless switch is on, wifi is turned off in windows. However the SmartWi no longer has a Wifi option to turn it on/off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Restart Windows 7, then look in the Device Manager in the Control Panel, and under Network Devices it should show your Atheros AR9285 wireless. If it has a yellow yield sign next to it, it could be just a driver problem or it could be a bad wireless card, although I've only ever seen 1 wireless card ever just quit. If you can hook your CW to an ethernet line, you can try installing **these** drivers from Sony for your wireless, or you can do it by USB Drive.

Unless something simple like the wifi utility software was accidentally turned off I would return it. Check the task bar for a wifi symbol and if it is there click on it and see if it can be turned on. If not showing there I would find the wireless switch settings in the control center or its equivalent and see if they are on
