    Hi all,

My FW was delivered yesterday and it has a horizontal line of white pixels spanning the whole width of the screen.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Also, I was wondering what people's experience was with allowing an onsite technician to fix it. If I keep this computer and let him fix the screen onsite, should I be worried it'll break again/other things in the computer are defective?

Should I just pay the shipping cost to return it to Sony Style and order a new one? Of course that means waiting longer without a computer too.

    What do you think?

Take a picture of the issue, call Sony Style and email it to the rep AS you talk to them. If this is a brand new machine they should cover the shipping costs. Personally I would not use onsite repair for this. There are too many stories of ham fisted techs scratching the case when replacing the LCD. If it were some part that came apart SOLEY with screws, I would be OK. BUt where the case needs to be pulled apart, no way.

Plus I would demand a NEW machine not a repair, since it is brand new. When you ask for that, don't get angry... be firm, but be nice as you do so.

Thanks, I think I'll take your advice and try this. I'm just worried about having to wait for the new one to come through, as I use it to telecommute for work.

There's always buying a preconfigured one from newegg, like this, but then I have to give up the Full HD screen.

I'll let you know how it goes when I call.

If you have room on your credit card, it might be faster to return this one for a refund and get a new one shipped. Discuss that with the rep. Or ask to be escalated if they say they can't do that.

So I just got off the phone with them. The guy told me it looked like an optimistic case for having prepaid shipping for a return. They would contact me via email in 24-48 hours after they reviewed the case.

He said for a replacement, I'd need to call in with the tracking number or else it would default to a refund 7-10 business days after the computer was received.

I know it is a separate issue, but you seem to be knowledgeable what with your million posts and all. Any thoughts on this model at newegg?

It is exactly the same as my custom built one, minus the Full HD screen. It is, however, $234 cheaper. Do you think the ECO is good enough or is the Full HD worth it for that price?

I'll be using the computer to work (mostly web, excel, and word), watch streaming video, and play WoW and maybe a few other games.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Go with the full HD screen. You won't regret it. Streaming of HD TV like via HULU, is GREAT.

Alright, I think I will take your advice once again. I'll tell them to send me a replacement once I get the tracking #.

I just tried playing a Hulu HD video full screen on this (Full HD) and it's playing very jerky. Is this another problem with the monitor or is there some setting I should tweak?

I ran it and my download was 7523 and my upload was 3090. This is wireless, should I try plugging in and seeing if Hulu is any different?

(Also, it said 'equals to 7200 kbiits/s')

That should be plenty fast enough. Did you try more than one Hulu clip? Anything else running at the same time? It should be rock steady at that speed.

I tried 2 things from the HD Gallery (Dr. Horrible and some Seeker episode to test). I tried an episode of a show that wasn't HD on full screen and it was also jerky. Only some other tabs open in firefox, nothing else running.

Try it with Internet Explorer and see what happens. That's what I use for HULU.

I tried it with IE and got the same results. I don't know if this is notable, but the first two times I tried it told me "Sorry, we are unable to stream this video. Please check your Internet connection and try again." and then played on the third time.

It plays fine when in its smaller form, but as soon as I move full screen it has very jerky video, as if the refresh is quite low.

That's odd. Not sure what to sugggest, but it sure does sound like an internet issue not a local display one.

Well, thank you for the help, I really appreciate it.

I'll tinker with it and see what I can get to work.
