    Hi guys.

With the release of the new Vaio P series, I was wondering where is the best place to buy the Vaio P. I'm located in Canada but travel to the US frequently. One would think Sonystyle direct, but it isn't even on offer in Canada right now. What is even more frustrating is that the configurations available worldwide are so inconsistent. I'm looking for a model with the Atom Z560 (or even Z540) chipset, 128GB SSD hard drive and would like to option to choose colour (not a real necessity... black is fine).

Sonystyle Australia - best spec is Z540 and 64GB SSD
Sonystyle USA - Z530 and 128GB SSD *only one spec with choice of colours*
Sonystyle Japan - All specs, colours only downside is the keyboard is not ENG US.
Sonystyle UK - All specs, certain colours

and so on worldwide... either slower CPU with big space, or fast CPU with small capacity.

I know Dynamism - Online shopping for Ultra-mobile Tech and Gadgets do imports to North America from Japan and WWW.Conics.Net -=- Shipping Japan's BEST since 2001 ! ((( conics ))) (but they haven't advertised yet). Moreso, they gouge you on the pricing...

so the $1 million dollar question is, does anyone know where you can get the best spec in whichever colour you'd like?

Why can't Sony just offer all variations and specs worldwide... you know it's not just the Japanese that like to spend $$ and have cool gadgets...

For those of you who have imported a model a quick review of your experience and thoughts on the unit itself would be great...

The models in the EU come with a sim card holder and the WWAN is unlocked. WWAN that is unlocked and easy to be used worldwide without doing any soldering may or may not be important to you.
In the EU keyboards are country specific.

The Sony VPC Z WWAN from Conics is locked even though the models in Japan do come with a sim holder and if the P is the same then i think buying from the EU is better. As you wrote as well it maybe an issue if you cannot get a US keyboard. Although i looked at the Dynamism page and the keyboard is listed as

"English QWERTY, 82 keys with 1.2mm stroke and 16.5mm pitch"
This does indeed look like US keyboard.

Hey Rachel. Yeah WWAN isnt too big a deal for me... got heaps of options available, one being wireless tether to my jailbroken iPhone so I can use the data plan on that.

The one deterrent from getting the Canadian model (when they decide to release) is the stupid bi lingual keyboards that they put on it. ie. French... I've never seen such a beautiful laptop like the Z or TT series be butchered visually. it'd be fine if they used the same sharp lettering... instead its fuzzy letters that are either a faded blue or an off pink...

I know the previous conics vaio p's were available in jp or US keyboard and even had the choice of colour like silver, black or brown. I guess until its past the pre order stage then it will start cropping up in more places like amazon etc. ahh patience is a virtue...

I agree with the WWAN because on my Nexus One I bought a 3rd party battery from Seidio 3200 mAh that gives me 25 straight continuous hours of 3d tethering to any 5 device! Especially with T-mobile's 3G being faster than ATT(perhaps its due to HSDPA + no iPhone since iPhones are a data hog and every other person on campus has one on ATT) with HSDPA+ is extremely fast! I'm getting on average 1.8Mbs-2.8Mbs down! Basically I carry my samsung N150 around tethered to my Nexus One's 3G that's kept in my pocket so I have internet everywhere I go! And here's the kicker, I only pay $59.99 a month for unlimited 3G + unlimited Text. :)
