To day i found new Vaio Z show off in my country (Thailand) it come in stores 4 days ago here is specification of top model

    VPC-Z117GG
    Intel Core i7-620M 2.66GHz - 3.33GHz
    DDR3 8GB
    Quad SSD 256GB
    Nvidia Geforce GT330m
    13.1 Screen at 1920x1080
    Windows 7 x64 Professional
    Weight 1.4 Kg
    Battery 5hrs
Local warranty 2years Inter 1 years
    Price 94,900 Baht (Approx US$2899)

New palmrest design is looking more better than the picture, the 1920x1080 screen does not look too small at all because it set font size to 125%. Text look a little bigger than the 1600x900 at font size 100%
When i set the font size back to 100% the text is small but not too much i think many people can live with that size.

After that i download some benchmark programs to test the device but in final the sale really don't want me to do that. So i took a picture in hurry and this is the result.

Those are some amazing WEI scores for such a small machine.

    Thank you, brave b_ambee! :)

As expected the important speed of 4k files is nothing special...as you said, they would do better with single Intel SSD.

The 4k speed depends on the random access time, that cannot be improved with RAID 0, you could put 100 SSDs into RAID 0 and access time would be the same, or even worst, since raid controller would have to do the work.

this might also be a case here, why 4k is worst than a single intel SSD. But I am sure a normal user will not tell a difference with "normal usage".

But a normal used will see a difference if he/she will copy large amounts of data or play games, then quad SSD will fly compare to single SSD

I don't feel it really. For running OS the small files are the most important and it's not that often I copy big files and if I do, it's surely not on the SSD itself but to some huge external HDD, where you'll be limited by the speed of the HDD and USB anyway. Thanks to raid the boot time will not be excellent as well.

I recently purchased an S series:

    Windows Experience Index Score
    CPU
    VPC S115CE: i5-540M 2.53GHz - 6.8
    Memory
    VPC S115CE: DDR3 - 4GB - 5.9
    Graphics
    VPC S115CE: 310m - 4.9
    Gaming Graphics
    VPC S115CE: 310m - 6.0
    Harddisk
    VPC S115CE: 320GB 7200RPM: 5.6

Quite a good performance for a machine that costs nearly £1000 less than the new Z, particularly the CPU!

Why is it much cheaper in Thailand? with the same specs, it will cost about $3400 (not even have the 1920x1080 screen ), and if you go with the topmost model available in US (pre-configure) , it will cost about $4400 (same specs with Thail model but only 512 SSD)

    How come?

    Excellent!

Can you open the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application and post a screenshot? If you can click on one of the disks so it shows the model #, that'd be even better.

you might want to take this into consideration and throw away the box or something

    http://www.customs.gov.sg/topNav/faq/FAQs+for+Travellers.htm

The laptop is subjected to 7% of Goods and Services Tax (GST). The GST paid is not refundable when you leave Singapore as GST refund for tourists is only applicable to goods purchased in Singapore from retail shops participating under the Tourist Refund Scheme

wow.. thanks for the heads up! i was intending the claim the 7% VAT when i leave thailand, thus dont intend to pay the 7% when i reach singapore. haha. wont wanna throw the box away though.. maybe keep in the luggage?

oh, would u happen to noe if i have to unbox the lappy when i claim for VAT in thailand? thinking if i could pack it in the luggage earlier and just carry the lappy..
