    Hi all,

1st time post here, been reading a lot of the Lenovo Thinkpad section as I have a t420s. However, since recently found out Lenovo business warranty is not worth the paper its written on, I'm Looking for a new machine to replace my t420s, and after seen the news of new Sony Vaio lineup yesterday, I found myself liking the Vaio Z.

Just want to let you guys know you can get a free CPU upgrade from dual i5 to quad i7-3612QM on the newly announced Ivy Bridge Vaio Z on the Sony UK online store for free. There is also a voucher code of “JUBILEE612” to save 5% which finishes today.

I ordered (shipping 3 to 4 weeks) a premium black Vaio Z with full HD screen, slice battery and backlight keyboard options for £1,060 after 5% discount. I also saved £20 by deselected McAfee antivirus as I prefer ESET.

The only disappointing thing I found is I cannot upgrade the 4Gb of RAM to 8Gb without upgrading to the 256Gb SSD option costing £410. I hope 4Gb is enough for running a single virtual windows.

P.S. Can't complain too much since I'm getting quad core i7, 1080P ultrabook for £1,000 and only paid £50 for the slice battery.

    EDIT:
Got an email from Sony telling me the Vaio Z should be shipped to me between 21.06.2012 and 28.06.2012, which is 1 week early than the 3 to 4 weeks listed on their website.

Also free CPU upgrade finishes on June 11th by the way.

    Thanks for the heads up.

The customisation link isn't working at the moment but the base config seems to be £1004.00. That is £200 cheaper than the old gen! I'm strongly considering this over the S series now since I can get another 10% off with student discount :D . I'd probably go for the i5-3210M option though - don't need the extra power and it's likely to run cooler and slightly longer.

EDIT: It's working now! Tough decision... £1000 is still a bit too expensive for me. >.< Update the S series Sony UK!

I'm looking to buy a 4Gb RAM stick for the Sony Z, but having difficulty finding where to buy it. Can somebody help me locate on where I can order it online please?

Also I have a 2.5" 256Gb SSD, can I remove the case and swap it with the 128Gb SSD in the Vaio Z?

I was not looking to spend £1000 on a dual core CPU, but with quid core included in the price, and a not too expensive external battery, this machine is exactly what I'm looking for. A portable machine with high resolution screen and all day battery life, also enough power to be the main machine at home ripping DVD and transcoding videos.

Both your standard RAM module and SSD will NOT fit in the Z, not the Z2 or the new SVZ13.

Thanks for your feedback. As for the storage issues, I have a 64Gb micro sd card which I'd like to use to storage my music.

On Amazon I saw this product, it can combine 2 micro sd cards in to a "MS PRO DUO" stick. Can you please tell me if this duo stick will work with Vaio Z's Memory Stick PRO reader?

Since I can buy another 64Gb micro sd card for £50, it seems a good way to add 128Gb storage for media files. Speed is not an issue since I'll not write data to the memory cards very often.

    Many thanks

EDIT: Looks like the MS PRO DUO adaptor should work, although I'm not sure if it can handle 2 64Gb micro sd cards, I'm going to try to see if it will work anyway.

P.S. For anyone who is interested, PLAY store have SanDisk class 10 64Gb micro sd card pre-order for £45 with release date of 12th of June.
