I was thinking USB 3.0 adapter but then I would have to buy a USB 3 external Disk capable of 100+ MB speeds... and not very portable
why not a expresscard SSD?
What else?

Hi, Colonels!
Perhaps the most intriguing deal I've seen, particularly if you travel internationally as much as I do, is a quite spectacular deal on a 7.2Mbps HSDPA modem for just $70. Check it out at Expansys-USA here.
Cheers!

I just googled seagate blackarmor USB 3.0 kit with expresscard and 500gb drive... Main problem for me is it requires an additional power feed from a USB 2 port and the drive maxed out around 60-70MB transfer speeds
but then I looked up Pretec expresscard 128gb ssd and that thing only does like 20MB transfer speeds ? -
Good price but they have USB 2 dongles that do the same thing and are much smaller. Also 7.2mbps hardly worth taking up slot. I want something that exploits the expresscard speed interface.

I put a G-Monster 48gb SSD into mine for extra memory - Ive only got 256gb SSD in mine.

I plan on putting my Creative X-fi notebook soundcard in it: http://us.store.creative.com/Sound-Blaster-XFi-Notebook/M/B001BS3A3E.htm
The quality is almost always better than the built-in one and this one should allow you to transfer your sound wirelessly using this: http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Wireless-Receiver/M/B001VNBI2E.htm -
What are the transfer speeds like? For $250 i'd expect them to be awesome.

I use an Avermedia freeview tuner in my TZ's expresscard slot...

+1. I'm definetely also curious to find SSD expresscard options which actually provide SSD speeds

Sound quality better?
The X-Fi Notebook sound card is a 48 kHz card without the EMU20K1 effect chip of the "big" X-Fi cards (instead, it uses your CPU).
The built-in Realtek HD sound chip of the Z is aeons better, especially when combined with a player that can use WASAPI, and avoid all resampling altogether.
If you don't want to use the built-in audio, and better sound quality is important, the Echo Indigo might be a better choice. -
As for the EMU20k1 chip, its mostly used for EAX effects and in game acceleration of EAX. True that x-fi notebook uses your CPU, but game benchmarks have shown that despite this it still offloads a bit of the work in games, giving you about 5-6FPS extra.
I have both the realtek HD and the X-fi, the x-fi sounds better. -
They also have fire wire expresscards. I may need one to connect to my exterior HD.
-
Unless you need 1394b, you won't need an ExpressCard for this. The Z comes with two different plug layouts -- one with 3 x USB, and one with 2 x USB + 1 x i-Link (which is Sony's name for 1394a, just like FireWire is Apple's name).
-
Unless I'm overlooking something, SonyStyle US doesn't offer the configuration with i-Link and 2 USB ports -- just the 3 USBs. Does anyone know something different?
-
Pretty fast indeed - I havent measured it myself, but is about 170mbs read and 100mbs write. Just the ticket to compliment the ssd in the Z itself
ive got a few programs loaded up on it and use it for my steam games such as L4D. Works a dream without taking up any space.
New Vaio Z what to put in the expresscard slot?
