    Hi All,

I'm a new member in the forum, and I just received my new Vaio Z11 laptop a few days ago. I'm very satisfied with my purchase as it's my first ultra portable laptop. I have the i7-620M version with the 1920x1080 screen and 256GB SSD (4x64gb).

I have a few concerns though:

First, Is it safe that I make a clean install of W7? My Drive came with a single C Drive partition but I'd like to partition my drive into C and D drives. Are there specific tools to use for SSD's?

Second thing is regarding the Fingerprint Scan. I have been able to apply it on Windows Logon, and have also set it for Power On mode, but unfortunately when I turn on my laptop it doesn't ask me for the finger print it only does that at the Windows Logon screen. I have checked the bios and saw nothing that has Enable finger print or something of that sort, there was just a clear finger print option.

Any Ideas on how to set it up for power on?

Sorry for making this long and thanks in advance :)

Hopefully someone will post a guide on clean installing the Z11, I haven't received mine, so I still have time!

Anymore suggestions on what to do for a clean install??

And if I'm going to wait a bit for the clean install..what bloatware am I supposed to remove?? I have mentioned what has been removed already.

Also is there any answer for my question regarding fingerprints??

    Thanks!!

Sorry for stealing the thread, but can you comment on the fan noise of the laptop? Especially when actually doing something on the computer (not necessarily gaming). Thanks.

Fan is on all the time and is louder than the one in my dell, even in quiet mode. It's not the wooshing of air, it's the motor noise that's a bit annoying. If you're in a room with other noise like A/C etc, you probably won't notice. If you're in a silent room then you will hear it. If you make the computer do work, it'll rev up and down in a continuous way rather than in discrete steps. This could be just my model, others may be quieter. It isn't super loud, but you can hear it. It's louder than the HDD (if you have one) and that's a bit of a shame as such a nice computer is let down by what appears to be either a cheap fan or a cheap fan controller.
The motor noise also resonates out of the case a bit too, as listening side-on, it's not bad at all. Listening above the keyboard feels like the noise is somehow enhanced. If I had the willingness to void my warranty and found there was room in the heatsink assembly, I'd put a thin layer of something between the fan base and the computer just to dampen the noise a little.

The test you can do is to go to a shop and put your hear right up to the keyboard. It may seem silly but shops are noisy and in this case, it's not the decibel level of the fan that's the problem, it's the nature of the noise.
