    Hi,

In a thread about the z3 someone posted the drivers for the 'new' PMD. Figuring that most driver software is backwards compatable I decided to clean out my Z2 drivers and install the Z3 onse here: Sony eSupport - SVZ1311EGXX - Drivers & Software

Result...it worked and I have easily a performance increase of 25% in games! :)

    Anyone else tried this yet?

Does this happen to fix issues with Diablo III?

What the cleanest way to remove previous drivers?

    Thanks.

The new drivers work great. They include version 8.961.1.0 for the 6650m and the 2712 drivers for the intel graphics, so they are newer than the leshcat drivers.

Also, the automatic brightness is working well and there aren't any backlight issues.

When you're disconnected from the PMD and put your Z2 to sleep and wake it again your display backlight won't turn on.
Haven't tested these drivers yet but I got the same issue with leshcats 2712 Intel drivers.

May give it a shot tonight.

What sort of "bonuses" have people seen from this? I'm only really interested in whether Diablo issues are sovled or not...itching to get the game but have been reading issues with the Z2.

Can u actually overclock the PMD with MSI afterburner or similar software? It should go 20+% up in theory.

For some reason with the Sony drivers, the clock speeds aren't showing up in Sapphire Trixx. But if you want to overclock is, leshcat's drivers work with Sapphire Trixx.

I installed these drivers first on top of the old ones, got the wake up/black screen problem. Then booted in safe mode, uninstalled and used YUC, and reinstalled the driver. Seems to be working fine now.

Overclocking with Trixx seems to works fine here.

Hm after re-running the windows performance test I only get a 7,2 for the SSD, before I had 7,9.
I don't know if it's due to this driver (unlikely IMO) but maybe anyone can confirm? Why could this be? o_O

SirRobin, I don't have PMD at home, will let you know tomorrow unless someone jumps in already.

Had some problems making everything work (CCC would not start), took several attempts. Oddly, my faithful Driver Sweeper didn't help, had to run YUC v2.1.6.0, you can get it here: http://yuc.leshcatlabs.org/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=4

Finally everything is working as a charm.

    EDIT:
    SirRobin, it's Catalyst 12.4 version!

    Cheers,
    Miki

Hi, anyone knows if Sony will ever update its Z2 + PMD video driver with this Z3 one ? Or if for some marketing reason, they will keep it for the new Z only ?

The answer to this question is when they get around to it. Heck, I am still waiting for my Z3 with PMD to ship. I bet you one American dollar it has the new GPU in it. Not that there will be much or any difference, but they advertise it with the old 6650.

And yet, at the same time, the drivers for the Z3 I posted from the US Sony site are for the new PMD.

Actually, VAIO Update just alerted me to this graphics driver update. Since the Z3 drivers posted in this thread appear to be newer (8.961), I suppose I shouldn't upgrade the drivers on my Z2. Is this Z2 update pushed yet to the other countries?

If the Z3 drivers are causing problem, you might fall back to the Z2 drivers (see post above). If you are using the Z2 drivers, try the Z3 drivers.

mine is vpc2390x, which driver is suggested?
is version 8.932.50 (official update version for vpcz2)
or version 8.961.10 (update version for svz13)

it seen that when I install version 8.961.10, the dock station performs better than default driver installed, however when using hd3000, it runs hd video much more unsteady! so I wonder which one is better solution? Or is there any way to get both work fine? Thanks

What do you mean by "unsteady video via HD3000"? I have Z2290x with Z3 video driver installed, no issues at all.

Thanks for your reply. Yes! when in AC power is unplugged and is set to balanced mode,
I recall watching the same HD video is totally not lag, but with Z3 video driver, it seems some little jiggly happens! Also the graphic of windows experience score is lower from 5.8 to 5.5 (high performance mode). What happens?

How do I turn off auto-brightness? seems like after I successfully installed the drivers whenever I want to change screen brightness with my fn+f5/f6 keys, doesn't change anything.
Anyone else having this issue or should I just re-install the latest Z2 drivers?
    Thanks.

You may try to open HD3000 properties: right click on Destkop>Graphic properties>Advanced>Power and there you can choose HD3000 performance both for plugged/unplugged settings.
I have mine set for Max performance while on AC and Max battery life while on battery. I have also disabled "display power saving technology" as it messes around with brightness settings (sort of auto brightness).

    @Calinono

You may need to reinstall Notebook utilities:
    Sony eSupport - VPCZ2290X - Drivers & Software (for Z22 model)
    Sony eSupport - VPCZ2390X - Drivers & Software (for Z23 model)

    Cheers,
