Have just got a Z from the sony outlet, it's a vgnz55 series no VGNZ55V051R.CEK and want a docking station but really confused by the model no's and the differences.

Anyone tell me what model no docks will work with this z ?

    Thanks

The docking station model no. you are looking for (the one intended for VGN-Z machines) is VGP-PRZ1.

Though you should note, these are EXTREMELY hard to find nowadays (can't emphasise extremely enough there...).

In typical Sony fashion, they have dumped all support for the so-called 'older' VGN-Z machines (though my Z2, when compared with average market specs, does better than most lappies being sold new today). That basically means they have stopped production and sales of accessories for the VGN-Z and have moved on with the VPC-Z. Heck, they actually stopped production late last year, when the last of the 5th refresh VGN-Z series were being sold off to make way for the first of the VPC-Z.

Even eBay sellers have moved on with docking stations for the VPC-Z, which unfortunately are INCOMPATIBLE with the VGN-Z.

That all said, if you are considering getting the extended battery for your machine, now's the time. I can't see those lasting too long in the market (there are still some being sold here and there). Try not to get them off eBay, as its littered with Chinese fakes that are near-impossible to distinguish from REAL genuine batteries.
