Just found out that there is a new bios on Sony Z1 drivers page. Is it hackable?
New Bios R3031C3 release date 21-Oct-20111. (The old one was R3030C3)
Fixes;
This utility updates the BIOS to version R3031C3 to resolve the following issues:
The computer does not prompt for the BIOS password when resuming from hibernation mode
The computer does not prompt for the BIOS password during start-up
The WiMAX® device is displayed as an "Unknown Device" within Device Manager after the system resumes from hibernation
A white line appears on the LCD during start-up

Didn't know that there is a new BIOS update for the VAIO VPC-Z1 series.
Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. -
I'm not getting any updates on VAIO Update.
-
same here, no good reason to screw around with something you don't have a problem with...
-
I don't have VAIO Update installed on my VAIO Z13 notebook so I can't say how that software works.
I just went to the Sony Support web site for my particular model & downloaded that latest BIOS update. I got my update from the following link that pertains to my model:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCZ13KGXX&upd_id=7153&os_group_id=6
Of course, the above may or may not work for you. Good luck. -
Im usually tempted to touch higher version numbers, but i'm skipping this simply because i'm not experiencing or those issues are moot to me...
-
Thanx for the info dude!Has anyone flashed the modified version of this BIOS?
-
Is it right that if those people with the hacked full version of the bios update to this new Sony version the z1 will go back to the shortened/edited Sony version?
What files would be needed to use the old method of hacking to get the new full version bios?
Old method here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...vaio-z-advanced-menu-bios-44.html#post7932873 -
I have the white line problem but I can't update to this new BIOS using the
FLASHZ1 utility from the patching method I get the following error when I FLASHZ1.exe R3031C3.ROM:
Code:Error: This ROM file size isn't correct Error: Rom size 21355E Current BIOS size: 400000

Got the bios update through vaio update
-
What I noticed is the bootup speed is greatly improved. If you boot with the NoGuiBoot option enabled in msconfig your boot might be over 5 seconds faster. Worth updating if you didn't use the advanced functions!
-
I'll try that when I come home tonight.
-
hmmmm my Vaio Update utility must be broken/sleepy... it still doesn't want to auto-spam me a new BIOS. Also no joy no matter how many times I hit that "Check for Updates" button there in the utility. It must be trying to tell me I don't need to update anything!
Or maybe I should manually download/install it to crash my laptop ha ha

VAIO : Sony Europe
Just use that link, should be just fine. -
i had to update my vaio update first before getting the bios update, maybe u should do that?
-
hey guys thanks!! I got the new BIOS installed. I updated the Vaio Update and the first screen there said there's a new "Remote Play with Playstation 3 Update". I was going... hmm... a PS3 software huh?!!
Then I clicked over to the next button ("New Software") and there the new BIOS is!!! Then I installed it and after it was all done, clicked the button on the message to shut down. So it shut down nicely and then i looked at the blank screen for like 20 or 30 seconds thinking uh oh this laptop got bricked!! It's a blank screen!! The new BIOS killed it!! Then i remembered it said shut down not restart ha ha.
Hit the power button and it magically works again. Bye.

Is that possible to patch this bios (static mode) in order to install proper nvidia drivers?
