Hi folks,
I just purchased a new 6600mAh SONY VGP-BPS2 for my Vaio and I'm having a great deal of difficulty charging it up. When I first got it, I charged the battery up for more than 4hrs and then used the battery up. When I recharged the battery the second time, it took a very long time (e.g. 1-2% per day)! It's been 3 days and I've still not be able to reach 100%.
The charge holds and there's a flashing light on the laptop to indicate that the battery is charging. In contrast, my old battery, which was 4800mAh charged in less than 4hrs.
I've taken out the new battery several times to let it rest and placed it back in but it doesn't seem to change the fact that it's just very slow in charging. I also compared it with my old battery - which still charges a lot faster in less than 4hrs than this one.
I was wondering whether there's something wrong with the battery or whether I did something wrong the first time around? Any advice would be much appreciated.

switch off the lappy and plug it into charging. The battery status is calculated from the potential difference of the battery.
It will take more than 6 hours to get fully charged. After that you turn it on and use it. -
Hi - thanks for your message. the thing is, i usually leave the battery in the laptop switched off over night (approximately 8hrs) and when I turn it on again in the morning, it only charged around 2% more each day.

Any other advice???

That's terrible news. Are you able to use the battery ?

Is it a genuine Sony battery? Sony notebooks don't like non-Sony batteries.
You can check battery parameters such has the design capacity and the charging rate using RMClock (works with XP or Vista) or MobileMeter (XP only).

the battery works when i use it without the ac adapter. the first time i was able to use it for close to 3hrs. i've been able to use it because it definitely can hold power, it's just that it takes forever to recharge. the charge rate on the mobile meter is flat (below 1). this is the first time i'm using this, is it even reading battery charge correctly?

sorry, just to be more precise: when plugged in, the mobile meter shows that the charge rate is 0.20w.
when the battery is discharged, it definitely works - there's a definite increase in the discharge rate.
