Installed this last night and it works fine so far. I still have my control panel.

Did anyone install the Intel Wireless update? Supposedly it prevents you from using the wireless switch utility which I need.

Why do you wanna use the Sony update? Just download and install the latest Intel WiFi driver, either ProSet package or the solo driver (if you wanna use windows zero config). That also includes the security fix that the Sony update has but your wireless switch will still work. I've no idea why the Sony update screws up the switch. The security problem is in the wifi driver, just replace it with the newest one from Intel which also fixes the problem but keeps the switcher intact.

Besides, that NVidia driver is ancient. The driver itself is dated from June. You could download it from laptopvideo2go since August 11th. There are newer and better ones on laptopvideo2go.

which one are you using private? I downloaded one of the newer ones and got a cycling bluescreen of death. From what I gathered on this site, the 8.4 series is the recommended series

Actually I have been using the Intel driver but haven't updated to the latest because of what I read on the Sony site about it not working with the wireless switcher. But now that you have confirmed that it works, I will go ahead and install the latest Intel one. Thanks.

@autophobic: Atm I'm using the 84.25 which is not the newest but one of the best. It offers all the features and powermizer functions. I've not tried the newer ones since I have not seen those problems they fix yet. I just wanted to point out that there are newer ones available then that one here.

@Neoguri: Well, I've installed the newest Intel pure wifi driver (I use windows zero config because I wanna save those 30+MB RAM the ProSet uses). I uninstalled the old driver, rebootet and when the "new hardware found" message popped up, I installed the new Intel driver without ProSet. So the WiFi driver is the newest from Intel now and fixes the securtiy issue and the switcher still works perfectly. At least it does on my SZ2. I tried an older verison of the switcher (v3.2) because I wanted to have the 802.11a option but that older switcher does not even start. The new 3.3 works great though even with the newest Intel wifi driver.

ok i will admit i am a windows idiot. but i'm totally confused. i generally install all sony updates as i figure they will work the best (my tech did a semi clean install) everything is working fine after the 8/9 and 8/16 update by i seem to have 3 different wireless switching options in my system tray. not sure if this harms or confuses my system. i seem to be able to switch bluetooth/wlan using smart wi, the windows switcher and the intel pro set switcher. is this bad? what do i get rid of? why does the sony update icon remain in my tray and tell me i need to install the hard drive protector thing even though i've done that twice? i am going to double post this because i would like a wide audience to weigh in. thanks for your answers

Its a huge waste of RAM, thats all. The switcher uses some 6-8MB and SmartWi another 30B so you're just wasting RAM. I'd uninstall SmartWi.

Not that I know of. But why do you wanna keep both? Just uninstall the one you don't want. You want comfort, go with SmartWi. You want less RAM usage, go Switcher.

Ok, help me out... Which one is "SmartWi"? I don't want to use the built-in windows wireless manager, but the Intel software. Which one would I uninstall (if any), and how would I do that? Thanks,

    Javier

When I double click the Windows wireless taskbar icon, it says that Windows cannot manage this connection... Does that mean that it's disabled? Thanks!

I am using SZ270 on XP. Check it out to see if there is any new update for GeForce™ Go 7400 Graphics Driver. Could you try the link and confirm Version 93.71 is the latest update for XP as I couldnot see "Go7400" in the "products supported": http://www.nvidia.com/object/93.71_winxp_32_supported.html

I had problems with my WiFi recently and DLed direct from intel without Pro/set like Private-Cowboy, no problems.

Also, we are using the same forceware driver 84.25.
