I bought FW140E/H from bestbuy yesterday. It is very gorgeous machine. I got with XBRITE-Eco screen as that is only option at local store but than I paid only $799 for this laptop compared to $1100 that Sony would have charged for same. I'm extremely happy with simple design of this laptop. My two major concerns are...
1) mouse button below touchpad are too small - but I think I'll get used to with it as there is no other alternative for that.
2) Comes with 32 bit Vista OEM + tons of crapware, I've MSDN license and was planning to put brand new version of Vista on it. Will sony software applications work after do clean install or it looks only for OEM version of Vista ? In that case I might exchange this one with FW170E/W at bestbuy as that one comes with blu-ray + 320GB HDD + 4GB RAM + Vista 64 bit.
Can anyone please comment on should I exchange mine or keep it and do clean install of vista ? I've PS3 so I'm not too much worried about blu-ray capability of FW170E/W.

OK-well I have already done what you are talking about...I had the 139 e/h and returned it back defective and paid the difference to upgrade to the 170 j/w. I really preferred the 170 j/w- 10 fold over my 139 besides the fact that it did not have the ATI graphic card. I also was upset because I wanted the Hicolor screen and wanted a faster hard-drive. I ended up sending back the 170 as well and getting a custom 190.
For the price you paid you got the best deal in town believe me. For a few hundred more it might be worth getting the 170 because of the extra space on the HD and the wireless card is better-Usually has the Intel card not the Atheros card. -

See my signature line below for a link to clean install instructions for FZ models. There may be SLIGHT differences in your FZ 140 but very slight. Just be ****d sure to make the DVD backup set BEFORE you start.
Post questions in the FZ clean install thread, if you have any.

Thanks for replying to my query but it seems I'm now more confused after reading your post. As per bestbuy website 170J/w has integrated card and not a dedicated ATI card as you are mentioning. Also the wireless card chipset on 140E as well as on 170J is same Intel and not Atheros. I think you got your customized from Sonystyle directly. Whereas one I bought is from retail store. Yes I like extra space + BR + extra RAM but I'm still debating if it will be cheaper doing myself (not BR but hard disk / ram upgrade).
