I found this on a turkish website. I dont know any turkish but it looks like the specs on the new vaio VPC-EC series.

    http://www.istanbulbilisim.com.tr/SONY-VAIO-_VPCEC1M1E-WI-NOTEBOOK,14546.html#urun_detay_div

Only 1440x900 resolution on a 17.3” screen. What a shame... I was hoping this would be a AW-replacement...

If it's a budget line machine, I don't think it should or would be considered the new AW...

True, I used wrong word. Its not AW, because there will be no new AW, 18.4 is no longer in Sony's selling program.

What about the Sony M line? That may be Sony's replacement for the AW.

Yes, it's a great price. £804 for that is excellent.

Note that it includes the Blu-Ray BD-ROM, so why for the S & Z series is the Blu-Ray BD-ROM a £400-£500 additional cost? It would appear that Sony is ripping people off for fun.

Because of the form factor for those laptops. If you shrink soemthing down, you need to adjust the cost appropriately. I would guess, that they aren't making as much as you would believe on the S and Z blu-ray drives.

Blu-ray drives are not new, Sony should by now be able to produce a slimmer drive at a reasonable cost. They own the tech so there's no real excuses.

it says only 2 usb ports? for something that big you would of thought that they would of found more space for a few more usb ports :D

The BD drive is a Sony-Optiarc 9.5mm height as opposed to the run o' the mill 12.5mm drives found on other laptops.

if that configuration doesn't come to the US, I'll punch babies.

but if they can't do better than a Radeon 5470, they can keep it. that is actually SLOWER than the 9600M by a noticeable margin.

    no backward steps, Sony.

Perfect, and I was about to pull the trigger on the 15.5" E series. So it's supposed to be what, a 17.3" version of the E?

Interesting. The EC series seems to have a matte cover. Can anyone confirm this?

Edit: Nevermind, this seems to be a European-only option.

What does the Asus G73 have to do with the Vaio EC?

Anyway, does anyone know what the 17"+ screen is like on the EC? I'm trying to decide between the F11 (16.4" premium glossy) and the EC at the moment with it's 17.3" screen. I know the F11 has a good screen here but I can't find mention of the EC anywhere. I need to know by tonight as the free blue-ray writer upgrade disappears tonight on the F11.
