I just got a top-of-the-line maxed out Sony Z to replace my Z591U and the touchpad is driving me NUTS! About 5mm from each edge the touchpad has a dead zone in the direction perpendicular to that edge. E.g., if I am moving my finger vertically towards the top edge of the touchpad (with the cursor moving vertically up the screen), about 5mm before I reach the top edge of the touchpad, the cursor stops moving. The same thing happens with moving the finger towards the bottom of the touvhpad or towards the right edge of the touchpad. It is driving me nuts and is promting me to return the computer if I am unable to fix it. If anyone has experienced this and had been able to fix it, please let me know. I tried everything with modifying or completely removing the scroll zones without any results. Please let me know if there is a fix.

Same here. Haven't found any solution.
Uninstalling the Synaptics drivers "solves" the problem, but all extra functionality is lost. A future driver update may fix the issue.

Aren't these areas defined as the scrolling regions? If you don't like it try disabling vertical and horizontal scrolling.

As mentioned in the original post, changing or disabling the scroll zones makes no difference and does not fix the issue.

Have you try the driver on Synaptic's website?

Yes the problem is indeed very annoying but it seems that many Z11 owners do not even recognize the issue!

I personally find the latest driver from Synaptics better (in terms of functionality, e.g. 3-finger flick) than the sony modified one that comes with the Z11. Although that driver still does not completely fixes the touchpad mapping issue it is much more usable. See this post for more info:

With the synaptics.com driver, you probably would want to reduce the right scroll zone to very thin (as close to the R-margin as possible) to prevent triggering the scrolling.

If you do use 2-finger scroll, you should get the open source free utility from two-finger-scroll - Project Hosting on Google Code regardless of which touchpad driver you use. It is really good.
