After hearing rumors about incorporating LED backlit displays into future HP laptops, the nc2400 may be one of the laptops to put in. One of the advantages of having LED backlit displays is to slim down the LCD chassis. The current nc2400 laptops currently uses CCFL backlit displays. If LED's are to be incorporated, nc2400 would become slimmer than most ultraportable laptops available in the market today, including the Sony Vaio TX.

This is how the current HP nc2400 stacks up with the Vaio TX: The nc2400 dimensions are 11.1" x 8.38" x 0.976"-1.2" (w x d x h) (~101 cu. in.), while the Vaio TX measures 10.7" x 7.68" x 0.82"-1.12" (~80.3 cu. in.). Both laptops are designed for hard-core travelers and suckers for smallness alike. The LED backlit display, as many would know, is the main reason why Vaio TX is so thin. However, if the next HP nc2400 is released with LED backlighting slipped in, the thickness could slim down by as much as 0.25" depending on the material to use for the thinner lid, which is enough to reduce the volume to under 80 cu. in. and topple Sony's reputation as for their smallest 2-spindle ultraportable in the market.

What makes HP even more interesting is that they managed to throw in a Core Duo ULV in their nc2400 laptop. Sony has yet to include a Dual Core in their Vaio TX. If all the aforementioned cases are to happen, Sony may be facing a *lovely* backlash in their market share if their overpriced laptops aren't redesigned. Not to mention Apple is also rumored to be in the works to incorporate LED backlits in their Macbook line of laptops. By the way, HP makes very affordable laptops.

Your points are all true, and I really hope HP goes with an LED screen in the nc2400 -- but it will boost the price some which might maker it close to the price of the TX. Sony does need to get on it with getting a better processor in the TX though.

you also have to consider the carbon fiber sony uses...

an led screen in a slim plastic case = 1 cracked screen

Unless the nc2400 has a new, never going to happen regardless of the adoption of LED screen technology. While the nc2400 is built for practicality for the business user (or the VERY serious student), the TX has a much wider target audience and is not built for the market of business users and students alone. Like who you ask? Anyone who wants to buy a top-notch stylish machine, the abundance of spoiled brats, you get what I mean. ;)
