I'm getting quite desperate now. Earlier I posted a thread on issues with nividia display on an SZ.
My computer is set to automatically turn off display after a certain amount of time. Everytime I move my mouse to wake the display up again. The screen doesn't come on but the computer is still running. To resolve this I have to shut my lid which puts the computer to sleep and then turn the computer back on. This issue only happens on my Nividia Geforce 8400M GS GPU and not my on board Intel GPU.
Can someone please help me! I'm getting really desperate!

Maybe set it to not turn off the display, and instead load a blank screen saver?
Would this fix the issue? -
It's set to turn of monitor after 5 minutes and screensaver set to none. This only happens on the Nividia and not intel onboard....
I think i read some where that the nividia driver was crashing....? Could this be what is happening? -
Could be, as strange as it sounds:\ What driver are you using now? Have ypu updated through control panel\hardware to the latest official sony driver? If so try a new driver from laptopvideo2go.com.
What i was trying to say was set the monitor to stay on and set screensaver to blank after 5 mins. Or would that not be as good for battery life? -
hey,
My computer originally came with vista business. So I downgraded it to XP Professional. I used the driver supplied on the Vaio Asia Pacific website for my model of laptop. It actually had a package called XP downgrade SZ for my vaio on the website. So i used all those drivers. Everything worked fine.
I want to actually turn the screen off as I would like to try to get the most battery life out of the computer.
I have to format the laptop in the next few weeks anyway. But in the mean time I want to get this issue fixed and also try to find a way to fix it after the format if I run into this problem again.
Just to let you know I also upgraded my Bios to RO122S5, that latest one. That worked fine. But this issue with the Nividia card didnt work properly before I updated my bios. Also, when i did the downgrade I updated my bios to a previous version supplied with the downgrade package after xp was installed. So maybe if i format and reinstall xp again on the computer with the latest bios, it might get everything working....
any thoughts? -
Don't think it's the bios. Run "dxdiag" through run in the start menu and in the display tab it should say which driver you have installed.
This will help to identify whether your driver is up to date or not.
Post the version and date if possible. -
hey,
I Don't think it's got to do with being up to date because its what sony supplied me. On the website theres no updates for the Nvidia GPU.
The version of driver for my Nvidia is 6.14.0011.56666 (english) -
Do i need to update my drivers.
Don't they work anymore, shouldn't it work? -
No you don't NEED to, but if it doesn't fix the issue then it will rule the driver out as the problem.
Funnily enough i think i was having the same issue when i first bought my laptop, untill i updated the graphics driver through the control panel\hardware menu.
But as i'm using vista you probably have the latest official sony release for xp:\ -
I tried using the link u gave me for the drivers. It didnt work. Couldnt detect my hardware. I think my card is custom made for sony Vaio SZ as it is hybrid graphic system. When i went to the nvidia website it told me to go to the vaio website...
Ill have to format in the next couple of weeks. Ill wait and see if the problem is there after the fresh rebuild. Thank you for all your help, cya around -
Ok
Did you download the modded inf. file with the driver and copy it into the driver folder before installing. It's all explained in the updating driver sticky i linked too. It should definatly work.
