    Hi, everyone!
I use SONY TZ-170. I am THIS close to crying cuz I can't get my Windows Vista reinstalled. It never came with a single DVD (just the laptop, manual which got lost, and the adaptor) when I purchased this beauty....and I heard that laptops these days are manufactured with OS pre-installed. So all I have is a CD-Key number right under the laptop.

I've pressed F8 right before Windows logo showed up, and managed to get into "Advanced Boot Option". But there is no "Repair Your Computer" to highlight (what they told me to look for).

Bascially I just want to get this laptop freshly formatted (to default state). Am I getting the whole procedure wrong? Or is it just my laptop?

PS: I'ma newbie so I don't know much about how computer stuffs work. Clear explanation will be greatly appreciated.

If you have your recovery partition, you should be able to boot into your recovery partition (D: by default) in Advanced Boot Options. If you don't have it there, you need to get a Vista disc.

Then whats the point of having CD-Key numbers attached below my laptop? Shouldn't they have then given me Vista DVD?

Have you tried pressing F10 when the system is booting? This usually take you right into the sony recovery utility to reinstall from the partition on the HDD. Let us know.

Have you ever owned a SONY laptop? This is NOT the way you use the reocvery partitions on a SONY.

To the OP, reboot the machine and press the F10 key this will get you into the recovery partition menu. You cannot use Advanced Boot Options to get to the recovery partition.

Not long enough to memorize which F-key it is to get into the Recovery Partition.

Then why would you post such a definitive message that if your instuctions didn't work that the original poster would have to get a Vista disk?
