My girlfriend's Viao PCG-61611L recently started giving the "No Operating System Found" error upon startup. This model comes with no Windows 7 restore disks and attempts to use recovery options finds no operating system to fix or restore. Bios sees the HD, I'm wondering if the MBR is corrupt? Nonetheless, any help with fixing this problem would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The PCG-616 is pretty much done since i don't think there's recovery partition there. In any case, you're going to have to probably reinstall. I don't know if anything can be recovered as it sounds like either a failed hard drive or a corrupted drive. The EB series should have a recovery partition though.

It could also be that your MBR got messed up (never mess around in msconfig, I learned my lesson). If that's the case, you might still be able to recover your files by connecting the drive to another computer. I think windows CD/DVD's have a built in repair console that can also fix your boot record but I haven't found those to be very useful.

Windows powershell with your HDD on another PC. Open a command prompt (Admin mode) jump on the affected drive and try FDISK MBR It may restore yout boot sector.
