I m running vaio fe690p with vista 32bit all-updated drivers and sigmatel HD Audio.
the problem is: when i plugin a headphone (earphone):
    - the speaker shutup (playing again when unplugging the earphone)
    - there s no sound in the earphone (the Volume Mixer shows know application running with headphone output); except
    - in the playback device option/ headphone properties/ --> when i TEST or PREVIEW sound, it s work (sounds come out on the earphone)

    so, wats wrong?
wat should i do? suggestions please!?

    thanks for any advance

    p/s: my headphones 100% works

i downloaded and used the older driver --> it works (but the sound became so stupid)

i set automatic update driver from microsoft. it installed and no work

Yeah this happened to me. What I did to fix it: right click on the volume icon in the system tray, and select Playback Devices. Making sure that your headphones are plugged in, select Headphones from the list and click Set as Default. Click Ok.

This got things working for me. When you plug the headphones out again, the speakers work as normal.

    Hope that works for you.

Funny how you hang out on these forums for a whole year and two people have the exact same problem in the same day. The above tip on set as default worked for me. Thanks again.

Sorry, I meant "Set Default", but this option is only available when the headphones are actually plugged in.. The green tick will then move to the headphones. Worked for me... hope it works for you!!

Yay, you're a genius! It worked. However, it doesn't seem to work on itunes...Still, I am glad I can finally use my headphones. Way better sound quality. Thanks again.

I am having a similar problem. My headphones work with everything except itunes. When I pull up the mixer, it shows that itunes is not muted and volume all the way up just no sound but works fine through speakers.

    Any ideas?
