    Hi everyone,

I thought I have blown the fuse in my vaio when I unpluged the LCD cable without removing the battery :( At first, I thought the screen turn bad and replaced it. However, after install the new one, still no backlight. Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. I also noticed that there are 2 fuses on both side of the mainboard. Thank you all very much.

Is the machine loading Windows in the background and attempting to boot and only the screen is black, or does it not get that far in the power up process? Will it POST with an external display connected?

What OS did the machine have? Is the black screen problem from moment the machine is powered on, or as soon as it attempts to load Windows?

Thank you for the reply. The machine is working as normal. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium. If I place the lamp behind the screen I can see things there, it just the back light not working at all eventhough I have purchased another screen. :(

No problem. Welcome to our community. I am not a Sony VAIO expert, but we have some of those folks here. If I cannot help, maybe one of them can.

OK, that is good to know everything except the backlight is working. Since replacing the screen did not help, it almost has to be something else (assuming the replacement screen is good). It may be simple to fix once you know what to fix. Is there a small inverter board for the LCD, (usually in the lid below the LCD panel,) or does it get backlight power through an LVDS or eDP cable? I don't know if it will help, but this may be of some value:

The screen uses the LVDS cable as attached picture.
Hopefully, I would find a solution from the forum. I took the laptop to 2 Sony service center, one said it is due to the bad screen, the other said the mainboard is fried.

I was browsing a bunch of stuff earlier.

    Addendum:

If you happen to hook up your display and the backlight ceases to work, then you may have forgotten to disconnect the battery and power cable when you disconnected or replaced the LVDS cable. The following images show the location of the fuses which may have blown during the process. Either replace the fuses or just bridge the connection with some solder to get the backlight working again.
