No more i7 available for the Z!?!

A few weeks ago I was pricing out a fully loaded Z and of course opted for the i7.

Then last week, Sony Style only offered i7 if you purchased the Verizon Broadband as well.

Now it is not even available.

The sales person I spoke with had no idea why.

But then she couldn't get her pricing straight on anything-- I had to figure out all the discounts for her -- if she had done it I would have gotten it for 20% more off than all the real discounts offered. I felt so badly for her I didn't hold her to her price offering and pointed out all the mistakes she made.

It still took 20 minutes to walk her through how to calculate the price on the product *she* was selling....

So what does she know about i7 !?!

So does anyone here know?

 

i7 shortage. Intel is having yield issues. I'm surprised Sony still had enough for production last week. Lenovo has been out for months. They had to shutdown X201s production because of it.

 

I dont think its the shortage anymore, I think they are trying to sell the rest of the remaining i5, and preparing for the new model refresh.
I was told that some i5 in the old model will be kept around in pre-configured models to keep them in the 1800 dollars or below range.

 

The refresh wasn't quite a refresh as the configurations remained pretty much static, just a big more RAM that's it.
