I posted this question a week or two without any response. I was hoping someone would have a helpful suggestion.

I have a sony vaio vgn-sz450n/c and a few months ago I noticed whenever I am in stamina mode (switch turned from speed to stamina), my sound does not work. Everything works fine when the switch is on "speed".

I can temporarily fix the problem by disabling and re-enabling the sound driver in Device Manager. Unfortumately, the next time I reboot or shut the computer down, or the next time I switch from speed to stamina mode, the same thing happens.....no sound

Looking in device manager shows all drivers to seemingly be installed and working correctly.

Also, I have tried installing an older sound driver from the sony site, but still it does the same thing.

Sony support just recommended that I reformat my hard drive and start over which seemed kind of drastic to me. I was hoping to have an easier solution.

Doing a search on the internet, I did come across a couple others with the same issue, asking questions on forums.....but without any solution.

Any ideas? Any better suggestions then to reformat and start over?
