I've been using the noise cancelling buds that came with my Z quite a bit over the past few days and several times have had what feels like a static jolt to my ear. Nothing painful it is just a weird location to get hit with something like that... Has anybody else experienced something similar? Possible my earbuds could be defective?

I haven't had that with the noise canceling headphones. But in general, you can get static shock through headphones in dry climates or when using stating harboring garments, like scarves.

I get some static every once in a while with the noise cancelling buds plugged in but no audio coming out [just using the noise cancellation feature]. I think this is just the way they are.

had to stop using mine because of this...eventually had to stop using them and pickup another pair. not sure there's much you can do about it, but the shocks feel hella weird and startling sometimes lol

This is one of the most bizarre things I've read in a long time! I'd definitely be complaining to Sony if that was an important feature to me (I can't use earbuds in general).

Well I have been using these everyday since I got this laptop, thats about a month now, at night, at day, dry, cold. And so far haven't experienced any shock or jolt, or not anything that I was aware of. I would recommend that you touch a grounded piece of metal every now and then. Is there alot of carpet by you?

Yes, most of the time it happens in a carpeted area. For me it happens 100% of the time when I touch my Z after doing something else (taking notes/rifling through my bag/etc...). Its just bizzare because when I contact it with my hand, instead of the normal zap from my finger it shoots into my ear, which having never experienced with any of dozens of other buds/phones still surprises the hell out of me.

i get this a lot when the laptop is on a fabric material like a throw or a bed.

I even get this when the ear-phone is connected to a different branded latop.

So I can say that it is not that your laptop is faulty.

Perhaps the earbuds make a better grounding connection to you from the Z than your hands? Since it's all conductivity straight up to your ears. Do you have Moist earlobes?

I personally tried to replicate your issue but I couldn't at all. Even tried a iPod headphone, lol.
