What are you going to do with it? Perhaps you should consider the FAQ and post there.

You shouldn't get alienware because their customer services are not good due to many complaints from many customers. If you are not a gamer then I think XPS M1710 is not the one you want due to its price, but it is nice to have one : ). I suggest you get a Dell inspiron notebook, since their customer services are awesome and it is durable too. Sony is also good, but they are kind of pricey too. If you would like to carry around with you then I suggest you to get sony due to its light weight. Good Luck!

eDoc, if you really want to get some non-biased opinions, you'd be better off with an FAQ posted in the What Notebook Should I Buy Forum. The systems you are considering are pretty much all over the map. Knowing more about what you will be doing with it and what your requirements are would be very helpful for those who can help you make your decision. Without the FAQ information all you're going to get is personal preference for one or another system.

This forum is frequented mainly by Sony enthusiasts, and the responses you get here will be somewhat tinted as such.
