Has anyone tried the OEM style batteries for their laptops? I've noticed some for sale at a substantially lower price than the genuine Sony batteries. I've got an SZ and I was considering this approach for an extra long life battery.

    They're generally very good.

Sometimes you can even find a battery with a little higher amp rating

Ive seen one or two on ebay, Ill be buying the SONY extended battery (its the same model for SZ and FE) to write a review on it then return it, $599 is just to much for a battery IMHO

Start > Run > type in 'msconfig' (no quotes) > click OK

Go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck the entry for 'ISBMgr'

I purchased a generic extended life battery from dsmiller.com for my SZ220. The once charged, I unplugged the power and within a minute or so, I received a message indicating that there was a problem with the battery and that the system was going to hibernate. I then removed the battery, replaced it, plugged the power back in, and started the system. I disabled ISBMgr.exe and now the battery seems to work great. Apparently, there is something about the genuine Sony batteries that ISBMgr monitors for. But I have not noticed any ill effects in using the generic battery. And it was about $120 shipped vs. $299+shipping for the Sony battery.

Since I started the thread, I just thought I'd post a followup. There do seem to be some cheaper versions of what I purchased out there, but I spent a little more to buy from a store with some positive feedback.
