that is not the hi colour screen, thats the eco, look at the name 180D, thats the same model on the sonystyle website. As well it is the same price on the sonystyle website. 1699.99

    XBRITE™: Technology: Yes

go look at the LT series on sonystyle, specs

    XBRITE-HiColor™ Technology: Yes

so it needs to say hicolor, otherwise it is eco.

edit, great idea the thread though, would recommend slight title change from Official Canadian vaio user thread to "Canadian Vaio Thread"

So he's like expect it to come out in a few days in stores. Im gonna be phoning their ***'s left right and center this whole coming week lol.

Its so good to know this time Canadian price for Z is cheaper than US and any other countries around the world (except Japan).
But I still dont understand why they dont offer P9500 to Z059...thats stupid!

Oh by the way, great news!!..Called Sony Head office before I left for work today, they told me that theres a good chance the laptop will be in stores today!! This was according to her system which checks shipments on their products and all.

And it looks like the 256mb video card on the Z555 is not a mistake on Sony.ca

    Ciao!

It expires Aug. 31, so 6 days left.
Btw at what point in the CTO does it ask you to enter in the code, is it after you enter you name and address, etc?!

I wish it didn't expire so soon :S I just hope I will get an opportunity to see it before this code expires.

For CTO, once you've entered in your name and address and completed step 1 (shipping information), you'll be able to enter the code in Step 2 (Billing and Payment). You do not need to enter your credit card information to see the result of the coupon.

For pre-config models it's easy, you don't need to enter any personal information to see the result of a coupon code.

This is not the $100 off coupon. It is the "5% Off Purchases of $799.99 or more" coupon. 5% off of $2000 = $100 in savings.

    There were three coupons:

    - 5% Off Purchases of $799.99 or more - (Expires Aug 31)
I have sucessfully applied this one to the Z pre-config, however it did not work for me when I tried applying the code to a CTO machine. RFDCJ030407

    - $100 Instant Rebate on pre-configured VAIO Notebooks - (Expires Aug 31)
I have been unable to get this one to work at all with the Z pre-config. VGNDCT100

    - Free Express Shipping on all orders over $249.99 - (Expires Aug 31)
This coupon appears to work with a pre-config Z, however it will not work with a CTO Z machine. Keep in mind that if you try to use more than one coupon Sony will remind you that "The Instant Savings Coupon promotion code cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion code." RFDCJEX3320

If anyone has a different experience with these codes. Please post yours here.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I contacted the Sony Store today and they actually knew about the Z! :) I asked them when they are expecting it to arrive and they told me that it is currently in transit to their stores. Each store should be getting at least 3 units in their initial shipment. The salesman didn't want to give me a specific date, but told me to check back near the end of this week.

I also enquired about discounts and he told me that they cannot give the same discounts as the SonyStyle.ca online store. Hmm, maybe I could get them to give me a free year on the extended warranty, if I pay for two...

I got a call from sony canada today saying my estimated shipdate which was august 25th was a mistake on the internet, and that the real ship date is sept. 5th. I argued saying I bought it because I needed it before september 1st. The guy said all he can do is give me free express shipping.

Do any stores in mississauga have the Z in stock yet? I'd rather buy one pre-config if it means getting it on time for school... and I'd cancel my order if they do have it.

    anyone know?

nvm, I called sony back saying I want to cancel my order and place an order for the pre-config Z555. The guy told me they cant cancel customized laptops, but hes gonna call me back after he sends them a message to see if I can cancel it or not.

reasons why Im canceling and getting the Z555 is because for 70$ more, I'm getting the better resolution, more video card ram, 3gb ddr3 ram instead of 2gb, a bigger hard drive and the same processor. I think it's worth it :)
Also, I think since its pre-config, it ships earlier.

Hopefully they let me cancel my Z540 order and get the Z555.

I don't think any of the codes work with the CTOs, it is probably on purpose for people to be directed towards the pre config models since the coupons work there.

The Canadian versions don't have integrated 3G wireless, do they? It sucks because some of the TZ and SZ used to (locked to Bell, but nonethless...).

I purchased the Z555 a few days ago, the manager gave me $100 off, and a 20 return policy with no restocking fee which they usually do charge. You guys will also be glad to know that the 256mb video card is not a mistake, its the real deal. Guy also told me Spt 5th it'll come in. Augest 29th is when they get it in the warehouse, then ship it off to the Sony Store's.

Good job on gettin the preconfig, ur better off. Made in Japan, better quality and what not.

wow, this is a JOKE. I canceled my first order for the Z540 because they kept pushing the shipping date further. I then got the Z555 because the shipping date was the 29th and even the manager told the sales rep on the phone that "I will receive this laptop before school starts on the 2nd, no problem". I called today to check if my laptop got shipped and I learn they wont get any in stock until the 18th of september.

This is the worst way to run a business, I dont even know how so many people are taking this lightly. I dont want to cancel again, I dont want to buy another laptop, but I have no other option...

I don't know much about how often SonyStyle.ca updates their coupons, but even though these coupons are about to expire on the 31st, isn't it likely that new coupons will be introduced in the next month. SonyStyle Canada, should offer a "back to school offer" for their Canadian customers. I'd bet that more offers are to come, as this segment of the laptop market is about to get very competitive with new business/professional laptops from Dell (new Latitude E4200/E4300), Lenovo (x301), and Apple (new MacBook Pros) set to roll out in the next month.

So I *think* there might be a good reason to buy from Portable One instead of from sonystyle.ca, if you want 3G wireless capability. Basically it looks like the models sold in Canada don't come with built-in wireless. Portable One sells the Z with an internal 3G wireless module that's unlocked, so you could use it with Bell or Telus I believe.

The question is whether there's any way to install a 3G module, internally, yourself after the fact. Alternatively you could always get a 3G expresscard but that would suck, you'd have the antenna sticking out.

I have a veryy strong feeling down in my gut that Canadians will get their laptops by tommorrow. Am I God? No, Am I a magical Pony? No, Am I drunk? No. But its just one of those deep down feelings.

(This is for the smart pre-order's)

Yea I have a concern with that aswell. I want to sign up with Bell portable wireless internet, and I wonder if there is a way around this which I heard there was. Something like a USB 3G key or something. Please keep me informed if u find something.

(Bell use's WiMAX, is that the same as 3G I heard)?

    Hello fellow Canucks! :D

I'm planning on buying a CTO FW in the next few days but I'm having trouble with my user account. I can access my account in the main sections of the site but once I try to log in in the checkout section a message pops up saying the password is incorrect for that e-mail adress. After trying to fix the problem, Sony disabled my account which somehow still works everywhere except checkout.

I contacted customer support a week ago and they still haven't answered. Is such a delay normal or are they just not interested in getting my cash?

EDIT: Btw, does Sonystyle.ca ever have specials on CTO computers?

the only CTO special I have seen was for the old FS model, if you ordered it with the blu-ray there was a discounted price for the drive instead of some regular price as was the original case, but seeing as the FW are new, don't expect any discounts just yet.

Wait for the new macs to show up, then sony may lower the price or offer deals, but who knows when that will be, I've read middle of september or even as late as october for the laptops. If you can wait that long, then might be a good idea, since you could save a buck or 2.

Thanks for the info. Too bad the Macs aren't coming in a bit sooner. I think I'll really benefit alot from having a computer very soon to work on my Digital Design course projects. :(

I'll wait a bit and see. I have to fix the Sony problem first anyhow.

Bell's mobile internet is EVDO, same as Sprint in the U.S. At the moment, their WiMAX is only for fixed wireless (i.e. it has a bulky external modem that you have to plug into the wall).

So... bottom line is if you sign up for mobile internet with Bell, Telus, or Rogers, you'll have to buy an expresscard from them & you'll have an antenna that sticks out about an inch or so from the side of your laptop.

But have you had a look at the data plans? It's absolutely insane how much they charge. $100/month for 6GB, & none of the plans offer unlimited data.

Sony is reallly beginning to **** me off. I called Head Office today, now I dont know if he knows what he;s talkin about. I wouldnt be surprised either cuz I got that same prick last time on the phone, and he told me theres no such thing as Z and that it wouldnt even come out in Canada period. And this was a week before launch of the Z. Stupid prick. Anyways, he;s saying Spt 18th is the date. But he is definitley wrong, I just know it. (For Pre-order;ss)

No, $45 / month is for the Bell WiMAX In Home, which requires an external modem stuck to the side of your house -- & once you leave your house, you have no internet. They also have "WiMAX Unplugged" which uses an external modem that you can take with you, that's $50/month, but you can't use it while you're moving around -- the modem has to be plugged into a wall outlet.

If you want to be able to walk around with only your laptop & use internet everywhere you go (i.e. the way people surf on their iPhone), you need an EVDO plan from Bell or Telus, or the equivalent from Rogers (HSDPA?). I think it starts at like $60 / month for only 1 GB of data... & I imagine you'd chew through 1 GB pretty quickly.
