Is there any way to get the 10% Student Discount offered by the American SonyStyle site in Canada?

    IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Hey guys! Wow I haven't posted here in a longg time. Anyways gotta quick question about the Z555dnb. I am having issues with the Touchpad for a while now. It intermittently freezes a lot of the time, like not just Frozen, but kinda goes all over the place when you use it, no smooth movement. Anyone else have this big problem? I wonder how Sony will go about fixing it. Thanks in advance!

I have not heard of any student discounts in Canada. I suggest you go into a SonyStyle store and ask for the price and then ask for a discount. Sometimes, you can get a break.

I wonder why Sony has no love for us Canadians! I was hoping for the 10% discount that they offer in America for students!

Although SONY is a huge CORP I guess they act independently in each country they are in.>They may do something here but nothing overthere.

Sonystyle.ca doesn't have any Z's ... does anyone know when new ones will be in? The dude at the Sony Store today said new Z's are coming out soon so maybe they won't get any more for a while?

Anyone else here from Western Canada that got the VGN-NS110E from the Telus internet deal?

If so, were you able to downgrade it to Windows XP? Did you have any problems with the wireless?

That is my only issue with this laptop.. other than the speed... thus the reason I want to install Windows XP on it. The specs might say Vista Capable, but really Windows XP should have been offered for it.

Sony support is pretty horrible regarding this. With my Dell lappy, I was able to get all drivers for it no matter the operating system.. directly from them!

Use Windows 7RC. It is much faster than Vista. It boots in under 1 minute instead of 1.5 minutes on my TT. Also, waking up from sleep is really fast. The File manager organize the files in much better categories on the side. Best of all, you can install it for free now without much trouble of drivers which are mostly available from Sony.

This was a free laptop with the Telus internet contract offer. The hardware is not all that great, so I thought Windows XP would be best on it. I have tried Windows 7 on it, and it wasn't any better than Vista.

Oh well, I really only use it for when I go out to customer service call to generate invoices and what not, or to type out stuff while watching hockey/mma.

Most of the time it sits idle, or my kids use it. I have a pretty good Dell laptop for anything I need to do seriously (Photoshop, Dreamweaver..) or my desktop. I will probably just gift this Sony down to the kids :)

Is this thread dead, or what do people think about the new 2010 Vaio Z with Core i5 and Nvidia GT 330M?

If you order the Canadian CTO, do you still get a US layout keyboard?

I really love this laptop, but there's no way I can get it with a crappy Canadian/French Bilingual keyboard. >_<

Edit: Nvm, I've found this thread: VAIO VPC-Z1190 CTO on Canadian Site!

Thanks for bumping this thread up.

Anyone know when we'll get the Y series in Canada? For the price and the specs, it looks pretty good!

What I like about the Y are the dimensions which are similar to the Z and the weight at 3.9lbs vs Z at 3.07lbs. The Y also lacks an optical drive which may be a disadvantage since there's no bay for a 2nd hdd, but on the flip side could be an advantage to extend battery power.
