    Hi guys,

    I just tried gaming with windows 7 x64 + Nvidia 9300M GS

so far, all games (Aion / Guildwars etc ) seems to have this issue of random FPS spikes
    e.g. 40 fps --> 7fps --> 40fps --> 5fps

previously, it work fine with windows vista x64

so far, all the games work fine with intel x4500HD. There is no random FPS spikes. E.g. constant 30+ FPS

    .............................

I'm wondering whether there are anyone facing the same issue as me?
or any suggestions / solutions to solve this issue

If not, I'm prob gonna revert down the OS

I have similar issues with videos, regardless of them being full hd or DVD resolution.

I can conclude that the DXVA (DirectX Video Accelerator) codec found on W7 (not found on Vista since this was a 'new feature' of W7 with it being able to play back 'more formats') is causing problems.

Alas, it boils down to your video driver. Tried Nautis's drivers? Or if you are using them already, tried Sony's stock ones?

I myself am close to downgrading to Vista (and there are a few nice discount sales for Vista Ultimate these days...) once I finish some SVN repo-based projects...

i was using the sony stock driver, so it's most likely something to do with the drivers?

i tried reinstalling back vista, and yes, the symptoms went away

    so curious about this o.olll

Yeah... It is W7's issue, and I doubt MS will release an update to 'fix' this issue in the near future. The vast majority of W7 users don't see an issue (and probably never will); the few who demand alot out of their machines and W7 see this lag will probably have to stick to Vista if this is causing an issue, or some other form of community-based fix.

For me, video playback issues are resolved using MPC-HC... I unfortunately have no clue as to how to fix a game lag... Have you tried running it on Vista SP1 compatability?

    This is certainly interesting.

SushiMonster, are you able to play 1080p videos without lags using the old Z? I tried it before with MPC-HC on Vista, playing the Killa Sample, but that was uberlaggy. Tried it on Win7 too, but don't remember the results very well.

On topic: I plan to play Starcraft II with my Z, and thought that it would handle it. I don't have a beta key already, but it would be good to know if someone here has it and tried it with the old Z. I would expect to get 30-40 fps using 1366x768.

    On windows7,
playing 1080P or Bluray quality Rip is not a problem for NVIDIA GS9300M.
I was able to do Call of Duty2 at 1366*768 without any lag.
Starcraft II can be played at medium setting without any lag.

but overheated gpu can introduce the throttling down causing the slowdown.
If you experience the lag like every 20~30seconds while playing game. I am sure that the throttling is kicking in to protect the gpu.

use rivatuner or hwmonitor to see the gpu's temp and let me know the result.

Could be an issue with Nvidia PowerMizer kicking in. There is a tool to turn PowerMizer off here.
