Hi,
and first of all sorry as there seem to be loads and lots of ssd threads already.
I just couldn't find any specific on that model.
Is the z11 the same as the z520?
My boss wanted to buy a new laptop (office work only) and I adviced against it, because I think the hardware of the z11 is still VERY fast.
The bottleneck is the old 5400rpm hard drive.
So I was thinking about getting a 360GB G2. But this one seems to not be available anywhere in Europe.
I've read some threads about placing 2 1,8" drives in raid0 inside the Z.
Is this possible with any Z Model or only specific ones? also is there a drawback placing two ssds in raid0 mode vs. only 1 big one (except of the obvious increased risk of disc failures using raid0).
In the first place: is it even possible to replace the hdd by an ssd in the z11?
Is the procedure the same as with the other Z's?
Didn't find a thread with a guide yet but I know there is one and will continue looking for that..
Thank you very much for any info, as I really don't want him to spend that much money if it turns out to be impossible afterwards![]()
Edit: would he need a special bios for the raid0 option?
P.S.: does anyone know whether the z11 has builtin sataII or just sata1?

"Standard" 2.5" SSD can replace the HDD in the Vaio Z11. To make things simple & since your boss is only using his Vaio Z11 (I'm assuming he's using that based on what you've described) for office work, I'll suggest buying an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD (make sure it is the G2 version) to replace the stock HDD. Good luck.

Pretty sure any C2D Z can use two 1.8" SSD RAID to replace the single 2.5" HDD/SSD, but you do need the special parts (the bracket and cable, etc. -- and they are not cheap from the Sony part store) and I believe you have to take the SSD case off the two SSD's to fit.

Thank you both
Any idea as to when the 320Gb version of the G2 arrives?
Old Z11vn/b SSD replacement, 2x 1,8" possible?
