My friends Sony Vaio PCG 7F-1L has a faulty DVD/CD drive (Sony DW-Q58A).

The dvd/cd drive just stopped working one day and it's as if the laptop no longer recognizes it (no dvd/cd drive listed in My Computer or Device Manager). In order to get a CD in I have to use the bent paperclip method and still get no activity after the CD is inserted (no lights, nothing). I took apart the laptop and the socket looks fine...no bent contacts/damage.

So I tried installing new firmware from Sony and still nothing...during the install it tells me there is no device installed.

So I'm pretty certain it's the drive.

The problem I'm having is finding a reputable place for my friend to purchase a DW-Q58A. Most sites no longer have it in stock and the sites that do feel a bit shady.

Is there any reputable sites to purchase one of these drives? And if not, is there another model that can work in place of it? Thanks a lot.
