If you have a .edu email id, I'd recommend getting office ultimate 2007 for 60 USD through the ultimate steal offer... else open office is good enough.. what are your usage patterns going to be like?

Microsoft Office runs faster, is better, but costs a lot (unless you can get an educational or promotional deal).

OpenOffice is free but runs slow (takes more RAM and CPU), and is much more basic (comparing MS Word to OO Writer makes OpenOffice look like a slightly better version of notepad).

If you have a .edu e-mail address you can go to www.theultimatesteal.com and get MS Office 2007 Ultimate for $59.95. :) Also, if you are looking for a DVD backup for it instead of just a download, it is a mere $13 upgrade, which still puts it at a pricepoint WAY below anywhere else I have seen. ;)

    Hope this helps! :)

    Sweet Thanks Shoelace.

Ac500--- Open office uses more resources than office 2007??? i thought it would be the opposite.

Read about it here (they compare OpenOffice 2.2 to Microsoft Office 2007):
    http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=480

The memory/CPU difference is usually 200% - 300% more in Open Office!

I used to use OpenOffice for everything until I tried MS Office 2007 - not only is it far superior in features and user interface, but it starts and closes far quicker and is much more responsive, and the numbers above prove it.

To all the MS haters out there, remember that not everything MS makes is bloated and designed by idiots :)

Ultimate is better than Home and student. I believe Home and student does not come with Outlook which i hear amazing

ThreeD- sorry i didnt think about your location. i guess you cant qualify for ultimate steal. i know in the states retail for home and student is 99 US. Euro prices for electronics are insane. I don't even want to know what MS charges over there.

Well don't think that way... I just bought Office 2007 Ultimate from www.theultimatesteal.com for $59.95 and not only did the Download go well, but they e-mailed me my Product key, and it worked to install on 2 computers so far. :)

So it definitely isn't a dodgy site, and works just as it says it does. :)
