I have one question, the laptop is working fine. Everything seem to be good, I just recieved this FW290 CTO on Dec 17th 2008.
There is slightly one problem with it though. The touch pad on the right side, it's kinda lifted little bit. When you press it down, it will eventually lift up agian. There is a little cosmetic problem on it, like the base where you put you hand when typing, there is a little spot on there that, what ever I clean it with, it won't goes off. You will see it, if you look at it at an angle, but otherwise, not noticeable, but it bother me though with the touchpad lifting up and the cosmetic.
I pay a lot of money for this, and would like to have this laptop as perfect as possible when recieved it.
You guy think I should return it, and get a replacement, or too much hassle going through shipping and returning. I attached a few picture, so you guy can look and give me opinion of what to do.

Yes, return it.
Newly bought laptops should NEVER have ANY defects. You should not just "live with it"
Sounds like a lot of pressure/bent touchpad palmrest fixture causing a " bumpity bump"
Return it and get a replacement.
FYI a new series of FW is soon to be released if you want to take this opportunity to completely return it for a full refund (as you're well within the 30 day return period just say you want full refund are unsatisfied) -
Thanks for your honest opinion. Yes, I think that I can live with it.. but when thought about it, this is $1500, alot of money..
Since you saying new FW is coming out, do you know when.. ???? We should get 15% returning fees right.. ? Since I am within 30 days..
I probably return it, and wait for a new FW. -

Since you're within 30 days there are NO restocking fees. I am not sure if you got it directly off SonyStyle.com if so just login and click Return products you can print out label and RMA# right online. -
If you decide to keep it, Sony will repair it.

Sony refreshes these models every 3 months and most of the times the refreshes aren't major changes.
-
Even my cheap CS series is cosmetically perfect. I'd exchange it.
-
Lovely, thanks you guy for all of your comments..
I plan to keep it, but I have the last experiencing when sending it back, they fix the monitor problem, but the scratch my laptop which is not good..
So, this time, return it, not exchange either. I will return it, and wait patiently for the new FW series. -
Looked like a beast from the specs in your sig
Definatly return it though, a more major problem could develop from it. -

One more question.. Since I bought mine for $1385 with tax, it's like $1470.. I consider that is really cheap for this laptop.
YOU CAN SEE MY SIGNATURE, that is the SPEC.
I am already send it back, but Sony has not recieve it yet until Jan 7th. Should I called them, and let them know that I want to replacement, instead of a return.
Right now, they don't have black color anymore on the CTO Sony website, except for white. While customize the same one I have, it come out $1850. Which is like $400 different. So my question is..
Should I replace the laptop with another one, or return it, OR wait for the NEWER model FW 300 series to come out.. ?????
Oh yeah, the FW300 series, don't look any different than the FW290 series even the graphic card are the some HD3650. I wonder if when they have the FW300 CTO, we can customize it with a different graphic card.. -
shouldn't the warranty covers this problem? It should cover you for any defects or manufacturing problem. I have hard drive noise, high pitch fan, and a beeping sound (actual beep not a swear word) and I'm sending it in for repair. I don't know if they will fix it, but I got a good deal on my laptop...but the decision is up to you though.

I have a 3K+ Macbook Pro (early 2008) that doesn't sit flush.
All statements what shoulda coulda woulda are plain gibberish. It is a process and there are no 2 identical units.
I went though 4 TZ90s before I was happy with a screen a year ago. Every one had its own tint and were extremely annoying.
If it doesn't bother you, keep it, if it does and you gain more bragging rights, then try to swap it.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT IF YOU CHANGE IT, IT IS NOT GUARANTEED THAT THE NEW BOATANCHOR WILL BE FREE OF ISSUES
Opinion, should I return this laptop !!!
