I ordered my first Sony today! An SR290 with the titanium gray finish. I wanted all-black but had to get a preconfigured quick-ship model to get a good deal. Between the $200 techbargains discount (TECHBARGAINSVAIODEAL) and the education discount, I got it for about $960. Free shipping with arrival by 12/24, so I should have it soon.

This will be a huge upgrade from my heavy, hot, slow 6-yr-old Dell! Now off to read more threads...cheers all.

Not bad, not bad. Just as you'll be getting yours, I'll be sending mine back, lol. The colors on the screen are weird/dull.

You can adjust the colors through ATI control panel.

SR is cool and much easyer to be taken on a trip. If it could provide a better graphics, i would have purchased it instead of fw. All for Star War 2~

There is no sales tax in my state. So I guess that would be before tax.

Congratulations on your purchase and investment. I personally have a CTO of the SR290 series and I love my unit. I have only had it for about 2 to 3 weeks now, but I have done a lot of different things (even messing around with Ubuntu) and I have got to say that except for a random BSOD here or there when I probably hit one too many buttons, this thing has been as solid as a rock. Hope yours turns out just as well!

Thanks a lot, I hope I like it too :) And I hope I don't regret not getting the midnight black, which I do like better... How do you find the battery life to be with the 7200rpm hard drive? Did you dual boot Ubuntu on the SR290 or replace Vista? I run Ubuntu and WinXP machines for my workstations.

    I have a question:

Since the sale tax varies so much in different place, could it make a profit that a OR resident(for exp.)purchases laptop online then sells it in a higher price (still much lower than the total price for another state's people)?
