Reading other threads here indicate the PlayStation 3 runs on Yellow Dog Linux.

1. Is it possible to reformat the 60GB (55GB when formatted) HD, partition it and install a different GNU/Linux distribution?
2. Would it run better with FedoraCore, openSUSE, or Mandriva free 2007 than Yellow Dog Linux?
3. Could Yellow Dog Linux be restored from the backup (197MB on SD card), or would it have to be new DL /reinstalled?
Understand the RSX graphics are similar to a nVidia 7800. PS3 has 256 MB of dedicated XDR VRAM, and another 256 MB of GDDR3 SRAM) as well as direct connection to the RAM for the graphics processor.{TY mobius1aic)
PS3 CPU is an In-Order Execution CPU with narrow execution cores, whereas what we use on our {REAL} computers are classified as Out-of-Order Execution CPUs with wider execution cores. The execution theme in the PS3 CPU is similar to that of what you would see in the original Intel Pentium Processor (aka Slot 1?). This is because theyve stripped out hardware designed to optimize the scheduling of instructions at runtime. As a result, the PS3 CPU does not contain an instruction window. Instead, instructions pass through the processor in the order in which they were fetched; hence In-Order Execution CPU. (TY Magnus72)
Desire more like a PC experience on the internet, is it possible to dual boot PS3 with 2 or more different GNU/Linux distributions ?![]()
Or run it with a different GNU/Linux distribution?:confused2:
Other OS options for PS3, 47GB of 55 free. GNU/Linux 4 a better PC like exp on Internet
