yah someone figure what it does asap
-
I tried it in my startup with -b0 and -b1, didn't see any difference, so as of now if you run setfsb from the command it will still loose settings after sleep.
I was hoping the background mode meant it would close setfsb but still run in the background and that I could see it in task manager, but it doesn't appear to be the case. -
good stuff

Yeah I'm just glad we can overclock now.
I noticed in cpuZ it shows stock the 1.06 hovers between 1.06 and 7xx mhz and when oc'd it goes to 1.2 and 9xx mhz. So I was wondering do you guys think it impacts battery life ? -
not at idle but on full throttle probably a little not much
-
does anyones wlan turn off when they overclock it does it in xp and vista for me once i go over 1.2ghz
-
Mine is fine in vista.
-
weird dont know why it does that
-
ditch vista. Only logical conclusion

im waiting for the new clockgen to come out maybe it will solve my problem of wlan turning off once i go past 1.2ghz
-
Yeah it seems he releases new versions quite often... I wonder if there is another oc app that works on the tz..
-
Can you tell us how to remove the Memory Stick from the Bottom of the Computer? We too, are upgrading to 2g.
Your post was very informative
Thank you, your help is most appreciated.
Patty and Mike -
I just successfully overclocked my TZ150 to 1.367ghz. 1.4ghz makes the wireless shutdown.
I'm going to run with this for a few days and see what happens. I tested it with OCCT, and monitored the CPU temp with RMClock, and noticed that when the CPU temp hits 84C (100C is the max according to Intel [ http://www.intel.com/design/intarch/core2duo/316663.pdf ]) it starts stepping back the speed til the temp is below 84C.
edit: i'm in limbo, as my wireless just quit working right running at 1.367, retrying at a lower speed. i will report back what speed worked without issues. -
Overclocked a TZ190! Maybe for this I must change the initial settings od the FSB?
The Intel Processor Utility shows from 1.2 ghz to 1.36. Also the system bus from 533 to 607 mhz.
Controling the CPU temp it shows 64C. There is no risk doing this no? -
after extended testing, it appears that 1.303 ghz is the max i can overclock my TZ150 without the wireless network card crashing.
i'm using the following settings on setfsb:
"C:\Program Files\setfsb\setfsb.exe" -w 0 -s163 -u1
i've tested the stability with OCCT, and after it was done testing, my wireless card still worked, and it reported my system as "stable".
i definitely notice a difference with 30% more cpu speed. -
so this is all software overclocking eh? No way to do this in bios correct?
-
the instructions for using it are on the first page of this thread. -
I'm just curious, but what is the purpose of overclocking the TZ? In what situations is this desirable?
Also, doesn't overclocking the TZ damage it over time? -
the purpose of overclocking is to get more bang for your buck, to make a computer faster. it's desirable when you run process intensive applications.
overclocking shouldn't damage the cpu, as the cpu will automatically clock itself back down when it reaches a certain temperature, at least the ulv intel processors do. -
Do you keep your TZ overclocked permanently? Or do you overclock it when you want to, then make it go back to the original processing speed?
-
i tried it, but don't normally overclock it, since i upgraded to TZ180 which has a 1.2ghz processor. i don't usually run anything intensive. i just had to do it to see what it could do. the u7600 is stable at 1.4ghz. i was able to overclock the tz150 to 1.2ghz stable.
-
Also, if I wanted to overclock my TZ150 to 1.3 GHz, what settings should I use? -
you have to experiment to find the right settings. -
If you don't mind, could you please post the settings you used to get to 1.3 GHz? The original poster of this thread showed his settings to get to 1.2 GHz, but not to 1.3 GHz.
Note: I have a Vaio TZ150N/B with 2GB RAM. -
if you aren't comfortable testing your system and trying different settings, you shouldn't be overclocking. -

Hello Guys,
is here someone how overclock the Sony TZ with 1,33 MHZ?
Kind regards from germany

Adjust the top slider in the SetFSB control panel so that the FSB speed is 150 (it is 133 by default). See the attached. However, if I move the FSB to 167 (CPU speed 1.66GHz) then I get a BSOD. It may be the memory which is crashing since the meory bus speed is also increased.

Thanks for you posting. I had read your posting at the begin but I have thought, that the Sony G11 have a single core but that was my mistake.
I try it!
bye -

Yes, the G11 is single core but I don't think that makes any difference to the overclocking methodology.

Is it possible to overclock a Sony VGN-SZ series??
-
Since Jan, Ive been running my TZ21MN 1.06Ghz at 1.2Ghz when a little kick is required. No issues what so ever. Batt life is the same and apps run well.
Updates to follow. -
Is there a work around yet for the sleep issue ?. Last time I used this setfsb app after sleeping my tz would default back to stock speeds.
-
Hi guys I just got a TZ a few days ago (TZ21MN/N) running at 1Ghz thanks for the great guide.
The system tells me that I've managed to get up to 1.4Ghz which is pretty insane, I will try to post some benchmarks for you later. -
Hello@all,
today i orderd an TZ11 and i am anxious for the day it arrives. probably mid-week. Its impressive how u managed to improve the speed to about 1,3-1,4ghz. I would like to know how much energy it drains compared to 1.06ghz. Could someone check this out? With RMClock it is possible to read the discharging rate out@battery mode.
Comparisons @ Websurfing and @ office/idle with resonable screen brightness would be great.
Thanx ^^ -
Browsing on wifi It estimates 2 hours 20 mins on 50% battery charge @ 1Ghz
pumping it up to 1.4Ghz seems to have knocked off about 20 mins of battery life.
Not very scientific but rounding that up makes 40 mins less battery life on a full charge when running at 1.4Ghz which seems reasonable.
I assume this would be much worse for more processor intensive tasks.
Hope that helps! -
thank u! It was helpfull
with an 58wh batterie the drain would be [email protected] and 14,[email protected]. Nice increase. perhaps because of the hole OC..CPU, Chipset and RAM.
Are u running Vista or XP?
Wich Multipliers are supported?
Wich is the min CPU Voltage?
thx very much ^^ -
On balanced power mode the multiplier changes from x6 and x8 with full power maintaining it at x8. Overclocking using the software in this thread ups the FSB speed so as far as I understand it the multiplier is unchanged when overclocked.
RMClock states Req.Vcore is 0.8500V, didn't think you could change the voltage on the TZ anyone know how?
Cheers! -
dont think that it is possible to lower the voltage to under 0.85V. But batterie life@web surfing with 5-6h is resonable for such a notebook. I cant wait to hold the tz in my hands. I think ill install XP und check the performance/ batterie there.
Tell me one more thing... If u overclock to 1.4ghz.. do u increase the voltage?

hi@all. my tz11 is in my hands. But im not very satisfied.
The build quality ist not very good... But the worst thing is the loundness. Is there a tool to control the fan?
how how does you CPU get? @1.06ghz@superPi?
It seems that the hot air is not comming out of the notebok but fan is@max. dont know how to describe.
greetz -
Did anyone successfully overclock a tz198?

Thanks! i will try it soon!
