Does anyone here know how to get into a Vaio's detailed bios? Anyone tried to overclock it. I have a TZ47CNB (canadian model), and would like to make it run a bit faster, e.g., 1.6GHz

First off, overclocking a laptop (especially a TZ) is a bad idea for almost all possible reasons. That said, most laptop manufacturers severely handicap the flexibility of their BIOS to the point where you can't mess around with the FSB. You will most likely have to try a software solution like ClockGen, CrystalCPUID, or Notebook Hardware Control (NHC).

Thanks Bog for your info. My TZ is running at 60c most of the time, and I think the upper limit is 90c. Besides heat, what other problems will there be?
I am used to overclocking with BIOS settings, but not software like ClockGen. I avoided ClockGen for some reasons that I cannot recall now (it has been 3 years since I overclocked my single core AMD). What should I be watching out for if I decided to play around with it?
Thanks. -
Because all the components are so tightly squeezed into the compact chassis of the TZ, overclocking the CPU could potentially cause problems to surrounding components as well.
When you use software like ClockGen, make sure you increase the FSB in small increments while you run a stress test like wPrime. For something like the TZ, caution is the order of the day; let it run the tests for several hours, and use an application like CoreTemp to monitor the temperatures very closely. -
Thanks, Bog. I'll leave it till later on, as I am still playing with it. I may turn it into dual boot with Linux 64 bit (I have experiemented with Debian on my desktop). Too many things to do with too little time.

There is a thread in this section specifically on how to overclock the TZ.

Thanks. I found the thread and read it. I will have no problem o/c mine.
