Like I said earlier, it would of been best to just tell them your notebook no longer boots up (a perfectly honest statement). Then, they'd probabaly have no idea it was a BIOS issue and they'd replace the mother board and not charge you.

Hey, been reading these forums for the past few days since christmas when I got my S5XP!!! I updated to the R0103V0 bios but I didnt really have much concerns with the heat in the first place. It was just on the update site so I did it. Oops! Now I want the older R0101V0 (I think it was what came with the machine) version back but I cant find it anywhere. I don't suppose somebody can be really kind and post link could they?

I have tried the BIOS update on my S-380 and its working like a charm. Before that, i could not rest my arm on my laptop after about an hour of usage. Buy with the new update and undervolting, the laptop stays just warm. The only tradeoff is the annoying fan sound that starts at a lower tempearture than normal 47C.

No more :eek:verheat:, if you can bear with the :noisyfan: for a longer time than usual.

Thanks you guys for all the info.

You see now thats the thing I can't stand the :noisyfan:.

So does anyone have the original BIOS?

    I would really appreciate it.

Does this heat problem still exist with the Sony S5xx Series notebooks? I'm looking into purchasing but don't want to if there is a problem with excessive heat and/or fan noise.

Thanks for the link EPluribusUnum. That helped in answering most of my questions. So which of the two memory compartments (one below keyboard, one bottom of machine) is the 'primary compartment'? Or is there no such thing and replacing the one stick of ram (preferably underneath machine as it is easier) with a larger one won't matter which ever compartment it is placed within? If you understand what I mean. Should the larger RAM module be put in the 'primary slot' ?is what I mean basically.

my fan goes on at 40 degrees. What temp does your fan go on with this new bios. I didn't have the overheat issue that you had.

I know it must be on there and I had look at the FTP site for the BIOSes.

There are so many. I downloaded them all and started them all up individually to see the vesion numbers (without installing them but I'm almost positive there is no R0101V0
