what model is your laptop? are the fans working? if your experienced you can take it apart and blow the dust out, apply new thermal grease to the processor.

when you apply new grease you don't need alot. just a thin layer. when blowing the dust out. be free of static. use a wrist grouding strap when while working with "any" pc/laptop component. better to be safe than sorry.

but if it is is just running really hot you can but a laptop cooler

Check out the Cooling Guide for some help...there are some terrific tips there. However, it sounds like it might need some cleaning or repair...hopefully the former.

Also, check out Notebook Hardware Control or Everest Home Edition for more info on your temps as well. How hot are we talking?

Definitely read through the cooling guide as night mentioned. I'd start with the fan cleaning. It would also help to know what temperatures we're talking about here.
