I have a vaio sz 691n/x and ever since I sent it into sony for a LCD replacement (they also replaced the motherboard for no reason) the charger was very hot at times to the point where it was almost unbearable to hold.

Well eventually the charger died. I got myself a new charger and guess what? The new charger is overheating too. What could be the issue here? I've heard of laptops overheating but the charger?

Anyone have any idea on whats going on?

Since you received another with the same issue, it may be a client side issue.
Check your outlet; ensure it is at the correct power for the charger. Also, try another outlet/surge protector and see if that's the issue. Laptop chargers do get hot, but should not be to the point of unbearable.

The first charger went out in Taiwan. The second one is on its way to hell in LA, california.

My guess is the new LCD/Mobo pair are not drawing a higher current than the old one... doesn't make much sense but it's a possibility I suppose. So the power brick does not have enough output...
This theory only makes sense if they sell multiple options for this notebook, including multiple wattages of chargers. If not... short circuit internally?

Well to "burn something out" one needs heat, thus a higher current.
A higher current may be achieved by drawing more power.
More power may be drwan by lowering the resistance.

Now the resistance may be lowered by a short circuit or by bridging over another resistor...

    (Just remembering my physics)
