Why are generally Sony Vaio's overpriced than Dells, HP's? Do the vaio's have really better quality than either of them or is it just for the SONY brand name?

superior screens. you gotta go see the difference

you get what you pay for

Sony only sells what it can charge a premium for. If it can't, it gets out of the market. That's why they don't sell VAIO desktops or CRT televisions any longer.
To be fair to Sony, they take that money and try to put out quality products. -
i am sorry but you have not done your research. sony fz with blue ray is much cheaper than any other similar pc.
please dont make wild assumptions based on limited research -
They were also some of the first to use Mg alloy instead of plastic on non-business lines.

You pay for the name, style, and features. When I was in the market for a notebook, I wasn't even considering a VAIO because I had the notion that they were out of my price range. I just wasn't happy with the styling of HPs and Dells, and I came across the FZ, which is very affordable for a Sony.

the overpriced thing is te blue ray drive... and is overpriced on every notebook brand... it add to you card around $600...
in conclution sony r not overpriced... you pay for the best quality screen you can get and good power saver, slick and low weight in a powerfull notebook -
because i feel different using sony.
-
a vaio gets you laid
-
I accept that the build quality of Sony Vaio FZ is the best in the consumer line of notebooks now. -
You can't justify that all Sony Vaio's are overpriced. You have to go behind the price and see what Sony is actually offering with their laptops. Sony's laptops are beautiful display wise. The screens are made form the type of material their extremely good looking Bravia's are made of. When your at a cafe, working/playing on a Sony Vaio, people will look at you and say, "Wow, that guy has an awesome laptop by an extremely reliable electronics manufacturer!" They are even offering a Blu-Ray drive with their computers. Buying a Blu-Ray player is nothing compared to how much a Blu-Ray player + a Sony Vaio is with compatibility to an HDTV. You just have to look at exactly Sony is offering with their laptops.

I have used used both and what I found was the sony vaio's display is more crisp and had good color reproduction.
