Because of an abundance of customers requests and complaints for all the bloat ware installed on the SZ’s we had our integration center make custom SZ6 images with zero bloat and trial ware, so users do not have to spend countless hours removing and/or wondering why machine is not performing the way it should be.

We will not charge our customers for this service but please allow up to 2 days additional time so we can send to our integration center for custom imaging.

The web team also included the option online for the SZ only for now.

Do you intend to "somehow" provide it for those who didn't buy at P1?

We are also going to make recovery DVD's to supply customers; so poeple can get rid of the recovery partition altogether.

I will see if they can start sending out DVD's to people for a nominal fee. They will have to get approval by Sony first I am sure...

If you need to get approval from Sony, do you think you will actually get it? I am doubting they would give it to anyone.

Coincidentally, I was dealing with Ivan when he mentioned this to me before I even noticed this thread.

The Sony bloatware also includes a trial version of Microsoft Office. I purchased the MS Office Small Business suite through P1 when I ordered my SZ691. Somehow the Product Key for the full blown OEM MS Office Small Business will not work since the trial version is somewhere. I thought I nuked it especially since I do not see the trial version of MS Office in my "Programs and Features".

What kills me is that Sony has such a beautiful product and for them to be such whores with all this trial software stuff. Aren't they already making enough $?!

I'm also miffed since it took awhile to transfer all of my files including photos, docs, etc (7 years worth) as well as iTunes from my old laptop. Now once I do a clean install, I have to go through it again.

Thanks Ivan and P1 for your support though!!!

Yep and its not just the all the free offers and trialware...
its the factory home page setting that opens up THREE tabs for Sony/AOL, Symantec, and Adobe
AND its the "Screen saver" that advertises upcoming Sony movie releases.
Sony has lost their fu--ing mind.

Oh that's great news. I actually bought my SZ680from you guys and I was dealing with Ivan G. Would be great to be able to order such a DVD, just plain Vista and all working drivers and nothing else. I can't quite remember what my ordernr was (deleted mails) but I was the one from Belgium who had the laptop sent to Bellingham, Washington, and paid through Google Checkout.

I managed to remove the recovery partition and get everything all working but it required too many word arounds and there still is a bit of a load-up problem in Vista (with Sony Utils taking a while to load up and such...)

Btw its nice to see a reseller also take action with regards to this. Yesterday on the Belgian news, following a debate on the European Commission's win against Microsoft in the Antitrust trial, quite some computer experts mentioned that consumers won't necessarily be better off if MS could not integrate a media player and such 'basic' software with an OS, as they'd have to look for tonnes of alternatives, and then they proceeded to mention that if a consumer now buys a laptop from Sony, or HP, they are just filled with trialware and all these extra little programs which are very hard to delete, etc etc. Was awesome hearing that out loud on the national radio station.

Would be good to see a little pressure from all sides (consumers, resellers, etc.) on companies like Sony and HP not to include all that crap but leave it optional as is now possible with Dell (from what I hear).

I too bought an SZ6 from P1 yesterday, as well. Ivan had mentioned this to me before posting it, but it'd be great for everyone - not just current P1 customers - to be able to get a clean backup dvd from P1...that's how you get new customers...

Ivan, is the additional 2 days for imaging for customers sending in their SZ's after purchasing with the bloatware installed, or for any of the units? And will you include a dvd with my purchase or will it be cleaned and ready for me to create one? Thanks again for all of your help.

We are including a 2 x DVD Recovery Set for no charge for our customers, when they select "P1 Optimized" image online and for customers who purchased them before image was created and finalized.

Talking with integration they can make some for other customers needing them too for around $25, cost per image set.

I bought my SZ680 from P1 about a month ago. I read through the thread and didn't noticed if P1 would be able to provide me with a clean install disk or not?

    Anyone able to answer?

Has anyone tried the clean install using the P1 DVD's?

I received my DVD's yesterday and went through the recovery process. However after 15 minutes or so I ended-up getting an error message that said "Archive Corrupt". Now my SZ6 won't boot-up.

I sent Ivan an email. Hopefully I can get this resolved soon.

sonballz, left you a VM with instructions....with Boot DVD1, just select restore backup and it will bring you to a screen with a Next button, remove boot DVD1 and put in DVD2 (VistaDVD) and select Next. It will do everything for you.

Please report back, call me back on my cell.

Nice to see P1 providing this service.

Apple has hardly any bloatware. Dell provided a bloatware free option. When will Sony get a clue?

As I posted in my other thread, it's so bad that it makes the Vaio hardware look like crap.

Ivan please keep us posted when the Recovery DVD Set is available just on its own. Also, does it include ONLY Vista and the drivers? Or also Sony Utils, etc...

Hi, I just sent you an email. I would love to have those DVDs. By the way, could you tell us more of these DVDs? Which softwares are included? Do all the features (such as Fn keys, bluetooth, fingerprint, and so on) work? Thanks a lot!

Ivan and Patrick at P1 are the epitome of premier customer service. They sent me the discs last week so that I can perform the clean install on my SZ691.

The installation instructions were a bit shaky (I forgive you Ivan, :p ) but with some common sense I overcame it. However, I repeatedly got an Error message and the installation nuked my system. After another set was overnighted to me, I encountered the same problem. Realizing my frustration, Ivan asked that I send the 691 back to P1. Apparently, it’s all good and being sent back today (they got the unit only yesterday)!

From what I understand, the disc must be perfectly aligned and must be perfectly stable. I guess the rough and tumbling street of Manhattan threw the disc askew.

I just ordered my Sony Vaio SZ780NW from Portable One with the docking station. Their customer service was EXCELLENT and pricing was very good. I am so happy that Ivan, Patrick and Company are providing a great product and service including bloatware removal of all junk from my computer. I am in the mortgage and downpayment assistance business. Time is critical for me and having a ready to go laptop is crucial to my success.

Cheers to Ivan and Portable One for their service!!! Keep it up! :)

Well, it's several months later. I see that P1 now sells the bloatware free images on their web site, at:

    http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=P1RecovCDs

The only thing is, they are only available for Vista Business.

I just bought a Sony SZ780, which should arrive today. I would have bought it from P1, with the bloatware removal, but as the model has discontinued, they didn't have it. I bought a refurb from Sony Style. Being a refurb, there was no choice of OS. Mine comes with Vista Home Premium.

Any way to use those P1 images on a system with Home Premium pre-installed?

If not, could you (Ivan and P1) add images like that for other versions of Vista? I'm sure there would be a demand for it, especially when people find out about it on forums like this one.
