That is ONLY 1,400 PRE-CONFIGURED on newegg... IF I SET THAT SAME CONFIG ON SONYSTYLE, it costs 1650!!!
So is the P8600 worth 250 dollars to have it configured into a CTO SR model on newegg.com???
is there any difference in L2 cache???
Would the P8400 (2.26 GHZ) be an improvement over a T7300 2.0 GHZ??? I used to have the T7300 at it was more than enough... just want to know if the P8600 is a no brainer over the P8400 or not!!
THANKS@!!!!! OMG IM SO EXCITED. HELP
-
What are you using it for? P8600 is definitely not worth $300. Same 3MB cache. P8400 would not be noticeably faster than T7300 except for heavy CPU usage programs such as math calculations, etc.
-
i make music. its pretty CPU intensive, but not really... i can manage it by disabling certain things. the 2.0 T7300 I had before was just right...maybe slightly more power than i really needed..
so should i get it!?!?!? -

The P8400 is definitely worth it because of lower power consumption than the T7300, but the P8600 is NOT (at least not for $300). They both use the same amount of power, and the the extra processing muscle you get is minimal. You can probably stand to wait an extra second or two while encoding that music
. Save the $300 and buy yourself a nice bag, external hard drive, or steak dinner with it.

ALSO...
Why is it an SR 129 when all there is is SR 165 and 130 on other sites? -

They're just retail designations for the specific components in the laptop. Each number will have its own predefined processor, amount of RAM, hard drive size, etc. They mean nothing if you pay more attention to the specs.
-
The reason its number is designated differently is the ATi graphics card vs. the integrated. SO far newegg is the only other manufacturer offering a preconfig ATi SR. Im gonna wait to see till tomorrow if more retailers put up the SR, and if they don't, i'll buy the newegg. -

To be honest, this just sounds too good to be true.... I bet newegg just messed up and its supposed to be a integrated graphics...
-
that is the same as on neweggs, except 3 GB RAM... WHy is it a SR165? sucha huge jump in number just for 1 GB ram???
also why the hell is it 1,700?? i dont know... seems fishy... 300 more just for 1 GB ram??
**** this is killing me. this has got to be too good to be true. -

Sony did could not verify the model, but said its possible that it could be made just for retail stores. the rep said that she doesnt know how newegg.com could even ship it if the new montevina chips havent even been released yet (err i thought they were released july 14???)
she also said Newegg is not an authorized dealer for VAIO. Newegg customer service said otherwise, but could not give any proof.
BULL****. -
newegg just upped the price by 30 dollars FYI...
WOW...unauthorized dealer too. -
hm the one on newegg has 256MB of dedicated vRam... I thought it was 128MB?...
