I would hope that Sony will consider a refresh with both the new Core I7 mobile cpu and a higher end video card. The competition is already lining up with just these items.

IMHO we won't see any bigger upgrade on Vaio's until the end of this year...definitely not on Z series

i want to see vaio FW and AW series with Mobile core i7 and ATI 4850 graphics.
even 4770 series will also do.what they offer currently is not that good.

Those chips are power hogs. We wont see the energy efficient ones until early next year and probably QQ1/2 for the vaio z. My guess.

I'm planning on buying a FW myself after Win7 launches. If SONY doesn't equip it with Core i7, I might just get a Dell XPS 16...

I know there's an FW refresh around the corner and exact specs aren't confirmed yet, so perhaps an i7 is included.

As for a GPU upgrade, it'll probably get one once the HD5xxx series launches, but we'll be getting an HD5650 probably(i.e. the mainstream category). The FW isn't categorized by Sony as a gaming machine, so Sony gives it capable graphics, but nothing overly powerful.

Yes I see that the 1st release of I-7 are terrible drains on the battery - so yes the 2nd generation of them will make more sense.

Forever-Melody - I hope that you are wrong in regards to the GPU -we should be given an option in the configuration site to choose a better GPU just as we are given one for the Cpu's.

From my understanding the 4650 is not a low spec card, and Sony managed to put it in a laptop that isn't overly heavy and doesn't get hot (from reviews). Dell hasn't managed to do that, so Sony must be good at working out the balance.
Once I read a review on the Envy 15's weight, battery life, heat, then I will judge whether Sony aren't giving their users the best deal.

just get the Dell. No way Sony launches an i7 anytime in the foreseeable future.

    people are fooling themselves.

as far as i know the 4650 card that available on the FW series can be chosen to be a 512MB graphics of a 1GB card, so they have somewhat of a choice. That being said, the FW series is a multimedia laptop, in Sony's eyes, they put in a Good enough card for multimedia purposes, lucky us its capable of playing proper games. SXPS16 is ONE OF their top line model laptop, and its known to be playing good games , they recently in last few months upped from the 3xxxx series ATI to the 4xxxx and i think its the 4670 right? and its far more powerful than the 4650 but 4650 is really good

Im still gonna get the FW because everyone i know who has a FW has a nice cool laptop from underneath which gives it a +5 in my books :D

and ive read user comments and reviews about the SXPS16 and everyone says its extremly hot :(
otherwise i would of chosen the SXPS16 since it had a the better RGBLED screen and backlit keyboard and better graphics card
just hate the HEAT HEAT HEAT HEAT and the glossy full body :(
but you gotta give it up to Sony for their AWESOME cooling system
hopefully they will put a better screen in the next refresh if not then in the FW6 refresh :Dwith better graphics

Hmm ....I kinda like the Xbrite Sony screens but I will say the Dell RGBLED is gorgeous.

I too am very impressed with how Sony has kept their laptops running so cool. From first hand experiance I have found the Dell XPS very hot on the part where one rests their palms.
