Hi, I bought my daughter a Vaio for Christmas in 08 and the HDD is dead based on local shop checking it out. I can't find anywhere on the internet how to access the HDD in this computer. Do I have to take the entire bottom off of it? The bottom has the battery and in the only other removable panel there is a circuit board which I'm guessing in the memory. No screws on the sides or top, either. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and when I called Sony they wanted the number on the front of the monitor which is VGN-NS140E

And I finally figured it out on my own. You have to remove the entire bottom. ALL of the screws have to come out, but fortunately, only 4 of them are different. The hdd also has 2 screws holding it in on top, but other than that, it just popped right out.

Sorry we weren't of much help! If you have anymore hardware problems in the future, try posting in the *Hardware Components and Aftermarket Upgrades* section. I guarantee you'll get at least 1 response.

I am having to replace the HD on the same laptop. Since you have gone through the experience, hoping to acquire some guidance from you.

You said, " ALL of the screws have to come out, but fortunately, only 4 of them are different."

What do you mean by fortunately only 4 of them are different?

Also do I have to remove the screws in the battery compartment? I see 4 there.

Any other tips would be most helpful. Thanking you in advance.
