My PCG-R505DL was working fine but just shut off on me without warning last week. Now I cannot power the computer on at all. When my AC adapter is plugged into the docking station, the power light on the docking station is on so I assume the adapter and the docking station are ok; however, when I place the computer in the docking station, no lights on the computer are on. Similarly, if I plug the adapter directly into the computer, no lights come on. Any idea what the problem could be? I'm guessing the motherboard is shot or something but I don't know much about that stuff. Is there anything I can try to bring this thing back to life?

Definitely sounds like the motherboard is shot. Time for a new one. R505 is at least 7 years old, right? I think it was the successor to my Z505 that's 9-yr old.

I'm not 100% sure but 7 years sounds about right. Can't believe it's been that long already. The CD drive in the docking station hasn't worked in years, but the computer has been mostly fine until now. I did have to replace the hard drive a year or two ago but everything else was great until last week. This is strictly a work computer anyway (my main personal computer is a Mac) so I'm just going to replace it with a netbook since my requirements for a work computer are very minimal. It would be nice if I could get this thing working again if for no other reason than to have a backup computer, but I'm not going to dump any siginficant money into a computer that's 7 years old. If I manage to bring it back to life I'll post back here for sure. Thanks.
