Got a chance to check out a few Panasonic laptops. They're not quite as sleek as the Z2, but they may be a bit more durable.

I particularly liked the video of the Panasonic being dragged behind a snowmobile. It has no fan, no heat exhaust at all. Hot-swappable batteries. And you can use it outdoors in the middle of a hurricane. While it's not as light as the Z, when you figure in the weight of a dedicated protective/carrying case, the difference may not be all that bad. It's at least as cool as the Z, just in a different way. Now I have Panasonic envy.

    Couple of my favorites.

Haha. I've honestly been tempted to purchase a CF-31 in the past. They're nice and rugged, but they seem to cost more than I can afford. (*cough* only when compared to my Z1 which I got second hand *cough*)

This reminds me of one of the posts I read in the Panasonic section where one of the guys was in the airport and security asked him to take the computer out of the "case" that it was in.

Here are some of their non-mil-spec but still tougher than ThinkPad cousins

The CF-SX1/NX1 are Panasonic's Z competitor. Sub 2.5lbs, standard voltage CPU. No FHD screen, but in exchange you get an optical drive and drop tested from 3ft. Also very expensive.

The CF-31 reminds me a lot of the Z -- it's a laptop with unique capabilities, it has no direct competitors. Just like the Z, it's pricey and the capability set isn't going to appeal to that many people given the trade-offs in weight, price, etc.

Even if the CF-31 and the convertible don't fit your needs, it's nice too see unique designs out there. It's good to know there's something other than an endless stream of HP/Dell/Sony/etc. generic machines.

I have a CF-30 and CF-19 ( handy on construction sites ) and yes they are a unique system that has had alot of odd features including long battery life for years. horrible systems for gaming unless you go to the big 31. but every much as durable as shown in those videos

and yes loveslaptops 1000+ nit screens in some if them for over a decade .... closer to 2 actually. the 6000nit in the 19 is the best screen ever for outdoors and bright sunlight
