Download Hiren's BootCD which includes dozens of utils and use Acronis Disk Director.

I've tried using just a standalone Acronis Disk Director recovery disc and it's doesn't have the required SATA drivers.

Norton Partition Magic not works in Vista. Try O&O PartitionManager 2.

Definitely use gparted. I just used it with my brand new Sony machine and it went without a hitch, plus it's really small and comes as a bootable iso. Just do a google search for it.

I used Vista's own partitioning tool, and although it is basic, it worked perfectly fine.

I just finished using my TT's recovery disc to partition my HDD into c & d drive. It also allows user to eliminate or keep the recovery partition. It allows installing clean vista with none of the sony software. Works great. I installed all the sony software, since I do not know which one's to keep yet.

I would vote for Acronis Disk Director also. The recovery disc has so far worked on all my computers. I used to use Partition Magic, but after Norton took it over, I have steered away from it.
