Just wondering if the TZ has enough power/speed to comfortably run Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom in particular needs a lot of oomph to quickly get each pic in focus.

I'm guessing the answer is "the TZ would be pretty slow with these apps" or "you'd be better off with an SZ", but thought I'd ask anyway. :)

By the way, I'm not referring to the screen size. Obviously the screen is too small for either of these programs. I'm only referring to the processing power.

    Thanks!

I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 on my Vaio TZ150 just fine. I'm not really sure why everyone says that the TZ is incapable of running Photoshop. I think having 2 GB RAM in my TZ helps a lot, though.

Opening Photoshop CS3 takes about 8 seconds. After that, everything runs quite smoothly.

almost all configs can run photoshop. however the comfortably running depends on :

    1. the tasks u do in photoshop and the resolutions u play with
    2. the config of ur current PC
    3. the number of plugins for photoshop

pls include ur system config the next time u post

Same here, I used Photoshop without any issue at all. But then, the model I had was a TZ with SSD+2GB RAM that I thing makes a difference. Even if you purchase a TZ with the 4200 rpm HD and you do a clean install I suppose it will be just fine, as Gazelle stated.

    Tired of the Dell420 SoundsGood?

No, not at all. I actually love it. But now that I have Lightroom installed, I could use something a bit faster. Photoshop runs great, as does everything else I use... but Lightroom lags a bit when viewing a picture. It takes a moment to get each picture to "snap" into focus. I'd like it to focus NOW. :)

To be honest, I know I'm better off with an SZ or a Dell m1330 -- or to just stick with the D420 I already have -- and that's probably what I'll do. But I'm intrigued by the little TZ.

I think you need a bit bigger screen than the TZ, with better resolution , at least WXGA+, so I think none of current Sony, HP and Toshiba is good for any Photoshop, Capture1 or DXO work.

I personally dont consider taking 8 sec to open a raw is capable of running Photoshop.

So it depends on how fast you need to or how many RAW files you will have to deal with at a task.

Me , I have to convert 1000+ every 4 or 5 days so I can't use slow pc for it.
I personally recommend Thinkpad R61, Dell Latitude D630, Dell Inspiron 1525 ,Vostro 1500 or worst case Toshiba Tecra M9.

All of these models have high resolution options (I think WXGA+ or WSXGA).

Avoid HP and Sony for PS since they do never offer any higher resoulation than WXGA.

When I said that it took 8 seconds to open up Photoshop CS3, I meant just that. It doesn't take 8 seconds to open up individual photoshop documents. Those open up in a blink of an eye. So, if you happen to use Photoshop a lot for work, most likely you're not opening and closing the entire Photoshop CS3 application EACH time in between different files. You open Photoshop CS3 first, which takes 8 seconds, then leave it open and access individual files, which take a second, each.

ok, sorry then. please forgive me. but what about high resolution screen TZ or SZ offer that?

if so , I will go check them seriously.

    have a good night.

No, no, no.... As mentioned in my original post (3rd paragraph ;)) I'm not asking about the screen size. I already have a 20" S-IPS monitor.

I'm only referring to processing power -- and I'm specifically wondering about Lightroom. I'm sure Photoshop will run fine, but I have my doubts about Lightroom.

Anyone here with a Sony Vaio TZ run Lightroom??
