You guys want to know how well you notebooks will handle photoshop. Well this will give you a good idea. Goodluck and post your results
Using Photoshop CS or CS2 (or PS 7)
============================== ====================
1.) Download the test image from http://xs78.xs.to/pics/06174/test.jpg
2.) Save it to the computer and then open it up in Photoshop
3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:
Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best
Using a stop watch / ps timer see how long it takes to apply this filter
I just want to see what these new cpu's can really do.
Please list your cpu details, amount of ram and the time it took for the test, just so we can get an idea of how the different cpu's handle this task.
* test adapted from a different forum *
Edit: And just to let you guys know, CS2 will run alot faster on dualcore setups because it is coded to make use of dualcores.
I managed to get 45 seconds with Cs2. I had Bit defender, firefox and 3 sony apps running in the background.
-
I was going to run it, but if you click that link, it goes to a GoDaddy page, not a test.jpg
-
Yep, I'll run the test when the image is available.
-
All right... ran it twice.. got it in 49 secs on the first run, 47 on the second
Specs:
- Photoshop CS2
- SZ120 (dual 1.86 core)
- 2 gigs of RAM
- Shut off antivirus and spyware -
nice ill run it after im done doing my battery drain and recharge..
-
Uh... I dunno what I'm doing differently !
but...
Photoshop CS2
VAIO SZ160P
First test: 14 seconds
Second test: 15 seconds
CoolMonitor, BitDefender and Internet Explorer running...
Amount 100, Spin, Best... -
Photoshop CS2
Dell D620, Dual core 2 Ghz/ 1 GB six hundred and something megahertz/100 GB 7200 RPM HD/Intel GMA 950
12 seconds
Running in background:
McAffee Security Suite
Virtual drive
Running in a window: Firefox
Would it run faster if that stuff was off? -
Image Fixed!!!!
Please redo you tests and edit you results Mr ikaris and Mr titainiummd -
I ran it twice 57s both times.
sz160
2gb ram -
Photoshop CS2
VAIO SZ160P
First test 47 seconds
Second test 48 seconds
Running BitDefender, CoolMonitor, Internet Explorer -
Are you guys starting the stop watch as soon as you click 'ok' ?
-
Thats how i've always ran it. But the margin of error is only about 1 second. -
45 seconds
-
1 minute 40 seconds using my VGN-S560P/B with 1.5GB memory.
stylexp, yzshadow, yzdock, Norton internet security and NHC running in background.
Oh, and I use Photoshop 7.0 -
sz160, 2gb ram.
47seconds with cs2 -
main post updated with my results. BTW i used this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=5787
to optimize my notebook. I skipped the step of disabling services running in the background but everything else i pretty much did.
Also i suspect if we didn't have the unecessary sony apps running, we would shave a second or 2. -
hmn this test was posted sometime ago under the hardware section or something, its's just basicly testing your cpu
-
And? Are you going to take the test? -
Interesting... i expected my work computer (Dual Xeon 3.0 gHz, 2 gigs RAM, CS) to do the test much much faster than my 120, i am surprised to see it was only 3 seconds (44) faster with the task
-
xprohx &ikaris, maybe youre on battery or lower cpu settings.
-
Acer 8204: 43 seconds
Sony TX-750: 3min 18 sec -
sz160
2gb ram
cs2 -
Ouch! on the TX-750. Now do you believe me now? CS2 on a TX is a no go. Especially for raw files. -
-
Yeah, i mainly posted this test to educate people on the performance gains you get from having multithreaded apps running on coreduo based notebooks.
Now as you can see, the coreduo not only performs better than any other notebook cpu's, but it performs better than alot of Amd X2 and Intel Pentium D cpus for desktops as well.
I had a Intel Pentium D 940 "Presler" and my best score on stock speeds was 46 sec. My average with that chip was 46 - 48 sec. Now i've redone my desktop to FX-60, and thats overclocked to 3.1Ghz atm and i get 26 sec.
But its funny how my coreduo in my SZ beats my old $500 D 940 "Presler" -
The TX is slow, no doubt about it. I will say though, it has phenomenal battery life on the stock battery. With Battery Eater Pro it got 7.5hrs on the "Reader" test with everything turned off and the screen at three bars (4th level per Sony). That's sick... -
****! that is sick. Thats one thing about the TX battery life its the clear cut best. I just wish it had more power and gpu. But you cant get every you ask for..lol -
Hence the improved Photoshop scores.
Photo shop test !!
